Chinese President Xi Jinping told Donald Trump in Beijing that Russian leader Vladimir Putin may ultimately “regret” his invasion of Ukraine, the Financial Times reported . Xi made the statement during wide-ranging talks that raised the issue of Ukraine, according to sources familiar with the matter.

At the same time, Xi Jinping’s comments on Putin’s decision to launch a full-scale invasion appeared to be harsher than before, the article says.

“One source familiar with Xi’s meetings with former President Joe Biden said that while the leaders had “frank and direct” talks on Russia and Ukraine, Xi did not express his views on Putin and the war,” the FT notes.

On Sunday, the Trump administration released a briefing about the Beijing summit, but it made no mention of talks about Putin or the war in Ukraine.

Also, according to sources, during the summit with Xi Jinping, Trump suggested that the US, China, and Russia join forces in the fight against the International Criminal Court, stating that their interests coincide.

Xi Jinping’s comment about Putin came as Russia’s war against Ukraine has reached a stalemate after four years, especially as Kyiv has become more effective at using drone strikes to attack Russian troops and targets.

China and the war in Ukraine

Earlier, media outlets reported that Putin would visit China on May 20, just days after the summit between Xi Jinping and Donald Trump in Beijing. According to the South China Morning Post, the Russian leader’s visit will last one day and is seen as part of regular contacts between the two countries.

At the same time, the Chinese side did not specify whether the topic of the war in Ukraine would be raised separately , despite the Kremlin’s expectations and international attention to the negotiations.

  1. Taiwan is 7500 miles from DC
    Tehran is 6500.

    Trump :

“You know, we’re supposed to travel 9,500 miles (15,289km) to fight a war. I’m not looking for that. I want them to cool down ….”

That sounds awfully like an abandonment of Taiwan.

“Trump suggested that the US, China, and Russia join forces in the fight against the International Criminal Court – According to “sources”.

    That is absolutely sick.

  2. I would say that putler is already regretting the invasion. His economy is shot, his military is shot and China are just waiting patiently in the wings to take over once mafia land collapses.

  3. Taco is already regretting it. The question is, did he tell Xi? If so, why? If so, why did Xi tell the Taco about this?
    Where’s my salt?
