The World Bank will send Ukraine a $1.5 billion financial aid package. The money will allow the state to provide critical services.
According to the Reuters portal , World Bank President David Malpass spoke about sending funds to Ukraine during a speech in Warsaw.
According to the head, the financial assistance package was approved after the allocation of $1 billion to the International Development Association and $100 million to neighboring Moldova.
The head emphasized that money from the World Bank allows Ukraine to provide critical services. This includes pensions, salaries for employees of medical institutions, the provision of social programs and so on.
“The World Bank was created in 1944 to help Europe recover from World War II. As then, we will be ready to help Ukraine recover when the time comes,” Malpass said.
The plan still needs to be approved by the World Bank’s board of directors, the president said. A decision on this is expected in the coming weeks.
Recall that in early March, the World Bank provided $700 million in emergency financing for Ukraine. And then he allocated two more tranches in the amount of almost $200 million and $100 million .
