In addition to the war in Ukraine, the parties discussed economic cooperation between the US and Russia.

Russian and American officials held a new round of talks to end the war in Ukraine and announced progress.

Thus, US Presidential Special Envoy Steve Witkoff wrote on social media that he held “productive and constructive meetings” with Russian Special Envoy Kirill Dmitriev.

“This meeting gives us hope that Russia is working to bring peace to Ukraine, and we are grateful to the President of the United States for his decisive leadership in the pursuit of a strong and lasting peace,” Witkoff wrote.

He did not provide specific details regarding the agreements reached, but he did clarify that Trump’s son-in-law, Jared Kushner, who had previously been involved in the Ukraine peace talks, and US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent, who has no direct connection to the Ukraine peace talks, were also present at the meeting. Bessent’s presence at the meeting indicates that the Russian and US representatives discussed purely economic issues.

In turn, Dmitriev reposted the American representative’s publication and added that he also considered the meeting constructive.

“[There was] a productive discussion also on the Working Group on Economic Issues between the US and Russia,” he wrote.
