Slovakia will lose hundreds of millions of euros due to the termination of transit, the Prime Minister believes.

The cessation of Russian gas transit through Ukraine will have serious consequences for everyone in the European Union, but not for Russia, Slovakian Prime Minister Robert Fico said in his New Year’s speech, the Slovak newspaper Dennik N reports .

“Stopping transit will have serious consequences for all of us in the European Union, but not for the Russian Federation,” the publication quotes Fico as saying.

It is noted that the Prime Minister has repeatedly warned that Slovakia will lose hundreds of millions of euros due to the termination of transit and that Kyiv’s move will mean higher prices for gas imports from other countries. According to Fico, gas and electricity prices in Europe will also rise.

In his speech, Fico also said that he intends to continue a foreign policy “based on respect for international law and non-interference in the internal affairs of others.”

The publication recalls that Fico’s government is one of the few in the European Union that maintains contacts with the Russian leadership, despite the fact that Moscow has been waging a war against Ukraine for almost three years.

  1. “Will have serious consequences”: Yes, you will miss Putins kickback for buying Russian gas, thats all.

  2. The serious consequences are for Slovakia and its big brother, mafia land … and for Fico’s political future.
