Details: Residents of Moscow and Moscow Oblast have begun reporting widespread home internet outages over the past few hours, DownDetector data indicates.
Reports have come from subscribers to various telecommunications providers such as Mosnet, Inetcom, CityLink, ACBT and Rostelecom. Media reports indicate that mobile internet is still working.
Background:
- Earlier on 2 May, residents of Moscow Oblast complained about providers that had allegedly enabled “whitelists” for home internet, several media outlets reported. Some Meduza readers confirmed this, although most respondents said they had not noticed any changes.
- The BBC News Russian reported earlier that communication restrictions in Moscow ahead of the Victory Day parade on 9 May would be stricter than before. All mobile communications in the Russian capital would be restricted on 5, 7 and 9 May, with text messaging and “whitelist” services possibly also affected. The restrictions have also been said to apply not only in central Moscow, but also within the Moscow Ring Road on the city border of Moscow.
