Trump has been repetitive when talking about Ukraine in interviews and speeches, and has been hostile for years. This hostility has inevitably caught the attention of American journalists and political scientists. And a recent New York Times investigation provides a chronology of how this attitude was formed.
The starting point is January 28, 2017. Trump has only been president for a week. He calls Putin, is the first to raise the issue of Ukraine, and… asks for advice – finds out Putin’s opinion on Ukraine! Just think about it: the US president asks the Russian dictator for advice on a country with which Russia has been at war for three years!
Putin, of course, happily delivers a monologue about Ukrainian corruption. That is, the champion of corruption talks about Ukrainians… And that same day, Trump called Germany, spoke with Angela Merkel. She tried to explain why America and Europe supported Ukraine, that it was necessary to continue to resist Russian aggression. But Trump abruptly interrupted the conversation. He was no longer interested.
The next wave of anti-Ukrainian sentiments was noticed in Trump a year later, in February 2018. Then Putin publicly announced that in fact it was not Russia, but Ukraine that interfered in the American elections on the side of one candidate (a woman). This statement, as we think, was made specifically for Trump…
Here we need to talk a little about Trump’s psychology and remember that his victory in the US presidential election was a big surprise. Everything went fairly, but several of our intelligence agencies began to say that it was Russia that interfered in the US election on Trump’s behalf. And he has two problems with that.
First, he’s afraid of the investigation (special counsel Robert Mueller found several contacts between Trump campaign employees and Russian agents). Second, he gets mad when people say he didn’t win on his own.
Another thing is that he has a narcissistic personality disorder. As an illustration of this, I will quote from his recent speech in North Carolina: “The president of Ukraine is in our country, and he makes dirty statements about your beloved president, me”…
And so, on this basis, Putin throws in the idea that in fact it was not Russia that interfered in the elections on Trump’s side, but Ukraine that helped Clinton.
Considering that fact-checking does not exist for Trump, and the truth for him is what is beneficial to him at a particular moment, he picked up on this idea. And when he met with Lavrov later, in May 2018, he began asking him about the relations between Ukraine and Hillary Clinton.
A few more months pass, Trump meets with Putin in Hamburg. He says that his administration wants to give Ukraine weapons and asks: “What do you think about this?” The story sounds like a bad joke. And the Russian “corruption expert” explains again that Ukraine is corrupt. And this time he adds that the Russian Federation is obliged to protect the Russian-speaking population in eastern Ukraine from… “ethnic cleansing.”
I guarantee that if Trump had a press conference after this meeting, when asked about the war, he would simply repeat Putin’s words.
Ultimately, in the summer of 2019, Trump single-handedly blocked a $391 million package from Congress, including $250 million in military aid. And this story will repeat itself when Trump effectively blocks aid for Ukraine from August 2023 to April 2024.
By the way, pro-Ukrainian Trumpists are still arguing that it was Trump who gave Ukraine the Javelins. Of course, he didn’t give them, he just allowed them to sell them. Through “I don’t want to”. 37 launchers and 210 missiles in 2018 for a total of $47 million. Without the right to deploy them in Donbas. But if you listen to Trumpists, Ukraine is still fighting with these “Trump Javelins” to this day…
In addition, journalist Bob Woodward also writes about the contacts between Trump and Putin in his book “War”. He describes how at the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic, Trump secretly gave Putin several Abbott machines (they tested for COVID-19) for his personal use. In those days, no one knew how to fight the pandemic, there were not enough machines, there were not enough tests. These machines were supposed to work in American hospitals, and they were given personally to Putin, who was very afraid of getting infected.
It is difficult to explain such an act. Perhaps, we can say that Trump loves Putin very much, clearly envies him. He wants to have the same power as Putin in Russia… Considering that such leaders have a mafia mentality, then this is a gesture: “We are our people. We do everything according to the rules.” And the fact that people in the US are dying from Covid, as it were, did not bother him at all…
Bob Woodward writes that even after Trump left the White House, he secretly spoke to Putin at least seven times. Were these conversations manipulated to make him regularly repeat the phrase: “I’ll end the war in 24 hours”?.. What’s on Putin’s mind may well be on Trump’s tongue.

That’s very wrong.
First, trumpkov was actually reluctant to sell the missiles to Ukraine and did so only after he was persuaded it would be good for US business.
Second, trumpkov took office in January 2017. The Trump administration first approved the sale of Javelins to Ukraine in December 2017. The sale was competed in March 2018, when the State Department announced it would sell Ukraine 210 Javelin anti-tank missiles and 37 launchers worth $47 million. So, more than a year after he took office.

Trump did not help Ukraine one bit when he was president. He treated putler as a highly respected friend and heaped praise on the tiny nazi even when his security services informed him of widespread torture, rape and “disappearances” in Donbas and Crimea.
But his hatred of Ukraine goes back a lot further. He has 45 year friendships with Roger Stone and Paul Manafort, both of whom are despicable convicted criminals who poisoned his tiny mind against Ukrainians many years ago.

Putin invaded while Biden was in charge. End of story.
What’s that got to do with the article? It’s about Trump’s well-known hatred of Ukraine, not about Biden’s equally well-known incompetence and intransigence towards Ukraine.
I post far more articles criticising Biden than those criticising Trumpkov. Yet it is Biden who kept Ukraine in the game. We know exactly from the published statements of the members of the Trump transition team what they plan to do with Ukraine and it’s beyond a nightmare.
Either Biden helps Ukraine to retake all occupied territories or Trump will achieve a peace forcing Ukraine to at least surrender the Crimea.
An offer was made two years ago; via intermediaries, to putler :
Keep Crimea, leave Donbas, declare an end to the war. You will pay no reparations and there will be no war crimes trials.
An incredibly generous offer which was declined. Since then, putler’s position has strengthened, not weakened.

My support for Trump is pure desperation. I did neither miss nor ignore any disgusting anti-Ukraine statements he and his vice recently made. It’s just that Biden fucked up and my hope is that under Trump it can’t get any worse.

We can always hope for the best but rarely get it. I would love a candidate that trashed Poopin every day and trashed him in private every day. But it looks like, as you said, we have to choose between vocal support or active support. What the Left absolutely hates is the facts that it was Trump that approved the Javelins, closed Moskali consulates, deported dozens of Moskali spies, shut down NS2, sanctioned the hell out of Mafialand, extended the existing Obama sanctions and lowered the price of gas and oil so low Poopin couldn’t advance his troops.
But, Trump also said he gets along with Poopin.
It is both illogical and senseless to accept the latter and ignore the former.
