Nearly one billion people will watch the Paris 2024 Olympics live. Ukraine Story intends to be there with our documentary crew for two reasons. First, we want to capture stories of the indefatigable spirit of Ukrainian athletes. Second, this Olympics will showcase the ability of Moscow to use athletics dedicated to global peace as a propaganda tool, even as Russia continues their war of aggression in Ukraine.
Russian athletes will not be allowed to compete under their flag, but more than 40 have qualified under an exception clause that admits AIN’s (Individual Neutral Athlete). That story, and the reality that Ukrainian athletes will be competing against Russian athletes funded by Moscow, even as Russian bombs drop on their families and friends, must be told.
Ukrainian athletes have persevered against great obstacles and their participation is testimony to the beauty of free men and women. It showcases to the world the indomitable love Ukrainians have for their nation.
