Andreas Umland, an expert at the Stockholm Center for East European Studies, discussed on Radio NV why German Chancellor Olaf Scholz advocates for accelerating Ukraine’s peace process and is reportedly preparing a “peace plan” with territorial concessions. Umland linked Scholz’s stance to domestic German politics and recent changes in Ukraine’s leadership rhetoric, noting that Ukraine’s recent actions, including its operations in the Kursk region, have shifted the negotiation dynamics.
Umland argued that meaningful negotiations would require Ukrainian military victories to pressure Russian dictator Vladimir Putin into serious talks, rather than accepting terms that amount to capitulation. He also suggested that countries like China and India could influence the situation by using economic leverage to push Russia toward negotiations or a ceasefire.
Ukrainian officials, including Oleksandr Lytvynenko, have stated that any talks with Russia must occur from a position of strength. President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has reiterated his commitment to a diplomatic resolution, provided it does not involve territorial concessions or harm to civilians.
Previous talks between Ukraine and Russia, including those in Istanbul in March 2022, failed due to Russian demands and ultimatums. Recent documents and statements from Putin have outlined conditions that Ukraine finds unacceptable, such as withdrawing from occupied territories and renouncing NATO membership.
Despite ongoing efforts and potential for future negotiations, Ukraine remains focused on achieving a strong position before engaging in any new talks.

Scholz is not the right kind of politician in the first place to organize peace talks, because a fool is never capable of understanding the intricacies of such types of talks. The dork still hasn’t understood the truth that there can’t be any concessions to a criminal, and that there will not be a lasting peace if concessions were to be made, and to couple internal German politics to surrendering another country’s sovereignty for the sake of a fake peace and rewarding a crook is in itself quite evil.
When will Germany get a leader again that’s worth the nomenclature and not some corrupt bimbo?
Germany is rebirthing NAZIs. I guess when Germany is obliterated by Russia, the US will pay for their recovery. What a fuckin shame.
I suppose if Germany is eaten by the mafia state, then there is no need to help their recovery.
