On May 10, the World Health Organization supported a resolution that would almost completely isolate Russia from the WHO . The draft of this document was submitted by Ukraine.

According to Reuters , as a result of this decision, WHO will consider the possibility of moving the office from Moscow, and will also refuse seminars, conferences and other events in the Russian Federation.

The document entitled “Health emergency in Ukraine and neighboring countries caused by Russian aggression” was adopted by members of the WHO Regional Committee for Europe: 43 countries voted “for” and only three – the Russian Federation, Belarus and Tajikistan – “against”, 2 abstained.

Supporters of the resolution consider such a decision to be absolutely fair, because a “health emergency” has arisen in Ukraine due to the war , primarily associated with a large number of victims.

It is worth noting that the adopted resolution has only a partial impact, because Russia still has the right to vote in the WHO executive committee. This issue is planned to be considered within a month.

“We all need to understand that today the participation of Russia, its medical workers, who have never expressed their position against the war, but on the contrary, openly support it, its political leadership in any event under the auspices of the WHO is a stain on the reputation of the organization. This is a neglect of work Ukrainian doctors, 11 of whom were killed by Russian occupiers and will never be able to return to their workplaces. Therefore, today our message for this special session is very simple – to stop Russia’s influence in decision-making in the healthcare sector, ” said Viktor Lyashko, Minister of Health of Ukraine. 

Russia, whose hands are up to the elbows in blood, cannot make decisions in the field of healthcare. Also, the office of the Organization that defends the right to protect the health and life of everyone cannot be located on the territory of the killer state, Lyashko noted.
