The White House is capitalizing on the premier of the new “Superman” movie to cast President Trump as a powerful hero for the country.
The administration posted an image to social media late Thursday with a depiction of Trump wearing Superman’s outfit, complete with a red cape, flying through the air along with the caption “THE SYMBOL OF HOPE.”
“TRUTH. JUSTICE. THE AMERICAN WAY,” the meme reads. “SUPERMAN TRUMP.”
The graphic’s publication comes as conservatives have taken to social platforms and other media to push back on comments from director James Gunn who said he views Superman as “an immigrant that came from other places and populated the country.”
Asked about viewers who might find a portrayal of the superhero as an immigrant offensive, Gunn said “screw them.”
The online fury at the director over his comments have intensified the spotlight on the box office performance of his ‘Superman’ reboot, which hit theaters nationwide on Friday.
