The White House will announce the US ambassador to Ukraine  in the coming weeks in the coming weeks.

 Charge d’Affaires of Ukraine George Kent announced this in an interview with Suspilny .

He noted that the selection of ambassadors is now a priority for the Biden Administration, and that Washington is already working on this issue. Kent also clarified that during Trump’s cadence, 80 countries of the world were without American ambassadors.

“In many of these countries there are political appointees, while diplomats with experience in foreign policy have traditionally worked in Ukraine. Therefore, I am sure that the White House will announce a qualified candidate in the coming weeks,” Kent said.

In early July, the media reported that the United States is considering George Kent himself as ambassador to Ukraine. His official appointment may take place in October-November 2021.

George Kent headed the US mission to Ukraine during the vacation of Charge Christine Queen. He worked for the US Mission in Kiev after the Orange Revolution, from 2004 to 2007, and after the Revolution of Dignity, from 2015 to 2018, and is very familiar with the Ukrainian context.

Two years ago, Kent spoke during the impeachment hearing of Donald Trump.

The diplomat reported to American officials about the events in Ukraine, in particular about the ex-Prosecutor General Yuriy Lutsenko and his contacts with the lawyer of the ex-US President Rudy Giuliani, and recalled the case of the murdered public activist Katya Gandzyuk.

The previous US Ambassador to Ukraine, Marie Yovanovitch, completed her work in Kiev in May 2019 and left for the United States. The news of Jovanovitch’s early departure sparked outrage among Democratic politicians. Democratic congressmen called the decision “politically motivated.”

Marie Yovanovitch became the US Ambassador to Ukraine in August 2016, shortly before Donald Trump won the US presidential election. The ambassador criticized the course of judicial reform in Ukraine, corruption, proposed to restore the article on illegal enrichment and dismiss Nazar Kholodnitsky from the SAP.

Yovanovitch’s departure was preceded by a scandal with ex-Prosecutor General Yuriy Lutsenko, who said that the diplomat had given him a list of persons who supposedly could not be prosecuted. In addition, the background for Jovanovitch’s statement was the publicity about Trump’s pressure on Ukraine because of Biden.
