The White House developed a last-minute strategy to support Ukraine.
Ukraine will receive another large-scale package of military aid from the United States before Donald Trump’s inauguration in January 2025. This was stated by Joe Biden’s national security adviser Jake Sullivan during a meeting with the head of the Office of the President of Ukraine Andriy Yermak , The Guardian reports .
Sullivan reported that the White House had developed a last-minute strategy to support Ukraine, which includes large-scale sanctions against Russia, as well as an “avalanche” of military aid to Ukraine.
In particular, during a meeting with Yermak, which lasted over an hour, Sullivan promised to provide Ukraine with hundreds of thousands of additional artillery shells, thousands of missiles, and hundreds of armored vehicles by mid-January.
The US has also promised to help train Ukrainian military personnel at facilities outside Ukraine. In addition, The Guardian reports that an agreement has almost been reached to allocate $20 billion in loans, which will be secured by proceeds from frozen Russian assets.
“This is being done to complicate Russia’s ability to sustain military action and strengthen Ukraine’s position at the negotiating table, which could lay the groundwork for a future settlement,” the article says.

As Reuters reported, Trump’s advisers plan to force Moscow and Kyiv into negotiations using “carrots and sticks,” including cutting off military aid to Kyiv if it does not agree to talks , but increasing aid if Russian President Vladimir Putin refuses.
At the same time, the EU said it was ready to financially compensate the United States for its withdrawal from a long-term multilateral agreement to provide Ukraine with $50 billion in aid to support its fight against Russia.
