NATO still does not give the “green light” for the same Poland or Romania to shoot down russian missiles and drones using their own F-16 and air defense equipment.
After another russian terrorist attack, the Air Force of the Armed Forces of Ukraine reported on the results of the Ukrainian air defense against enemy air targets. According to the report, the enemy struck with 23 Shahed attack drones (15 of them were shot down, two more UAVs were lost in location – probably fell under the influence of EW), as well as four Kh-59 missiles (one missile was shot down, three other missiles did not achieve their goals due to the active countermeasures of the Defense Forces of Ukraine). It is noted that anti-aircraft defense acted in Odesa, Kharkiv and Dnipropetrovsk regions.
At the same time, according to the reports of the Romanian Ministry of Defense, russian drones once again flew into the territory of a NATO member state during this attack. In particular, at 2:20 AM and 2:38 AM, local residents of Tulcea and Constanța counties received alarm messages.
To monitor the air situation, two F-16 fighters of the Romanian Air Force took off from the 86th Fetești Air Force Base around 2:25 AM – the flight lasted almost two hours, after which the planes returned to the base.
According to the Ministry of Defense of Romania, during this time, using the radar surveillance system, a drone was detected, which was in the airspace of the country for some time, after which it returned to the territory of Ukraine. Two F-16 fighter jets watched the flight of the attack drone, the Romanian MoD said.
Judging by this statement, the F-16 had no obstacles to shoot down the target. At the same time, the country’s MoD also states that “at this time there is a possibility of the existence of a zone of damage on the territory of the country, in a deserted area on the outskirts of the city of Periprava”, which is why air assets and ground teams were involved for reconnaissance. The Defense Ministry of Romania has traditionally declared its strong condemnation of russian attacks on Ukrainian civil infrastructure.
In general, currently, from a technical point of view, NATO member states are quite capable of destroying russian targets that fly into their airspace, while, unfortunately, the Alliance does not give the “green light” for such actions.
Earlier, Defense Express reported that the Poles rather strangely explained to the Romanians why their F-16s were not shoot down russian missiles and Shahed-type drones.
Hmm … really? I mean, REALLY? The Romanians sent interceptors to where the attack drones crossed their border, and the pilots only WATCHED as the drones flew around in THEIR airspace???

That leaves me speechless. I don’t know how to respond to this. But, this does make me strongly wonder, what use is NATO???????
