• Let’s invest in Ukraine; it will soon become a new emerging market.

What should Ukraine expect from the US elections? Nothing… Let’s stop expecting anything! If Ukraine is a weak state, this is only our fault!
The US election we have been waiting for has finally arrived. In the next 24 hours, we will receive the first results from the polls and perhaps learn who the next US president will be. Will that president’s legacy be helping to end the war in Ukraine or selling our country for a song? Unfortunately, our future hinges on this question.
What should Ukraine expect? #Democrats support Ukraine but their assistance has been sluggish to arrive, long after it was promised. Ukraine has been bleeding to death, waiting for crucial aid to be approved and then delivered. Should we expect much from #Kamala? We don’t think so, because she will continue #Biden’s policies. How about the #Republicans? #Trump’s presidential campaign has not promised much support, and he scares Ukrainians more than Kamala Harris.
A typical American might ask, “Why must we care for and help you?” And they would be 100% correct to ask that question.
In answer to that question, what can Ukrainians say? It is simple. Nothing. As a nation, we failed to build a strong country with a strong army equipped with advanced weapons despite having a great foundation to do just that. Over the last decade, what has been done to build our defensive capabilities since the #CrimeanAnnexation? Again, nothing. Over the last two decades, none of our politicians have been interested in building a strong nation. With the billions of dollars they stole from Ukraine, they sit in lavish mansions in the South of France and write books about building a new, prosperous Ukraine.
The US and its new president are not obligated to do anything for Ukraine. This is our problem, and it is nobody else’s fault that we, the largest country in the EU with the largest deposits of minerals, gas, oil, sea access, and a fantastic location, are one of the weakest countries in the world.

Best post I’ve seen in a while. Thank you Andrew.

Ukraine has problems, but the post is a victim blaming. It’s like not giving protection to someone attacked by a maniac because he has a bad credit history and has not bought guns and trained to use them. Are laws existing or do we live in jungles? Whatever internal problems Ukraine has, external invasion is different. NONE of European countries could stand a similar invasion alone, no matter how effective they are. Try replacing “Ukraine” with any other European country, and you’ll see how that sounds. Not to mention security assurances given by US in 1994 when Ukraine agreed to give up their nukes.
Shelter and Bunker
After giving up nuclear weapons Ukraine went on on 27-28 years of full blown corruption run.
Stealing national wealth.
All those presidents from Kravchuk to Poroshenko and Zelenski as well always knew what kind of barbarian regime they have on the border.
Why, why none of them those of creating national defense industries?
Why?
It was a huge party and the party is over.
So now, America help as.
Ok, America helping and will continue to do so!
But could you show America, not by words, but by realistic plan, how would you get out of this huge hole?

SHELTER & BUNKER All mostly true but how does it justify Russia? Ukrainian corruption is about the world average (less than in Turkey, a NATO member, by the way, but who cares). So does it mean that any country with a certain level of corruption may be occupied by enyone? Is that the logic? Can Finland occupy US then, just because it has less corruption?
Not to mention that Russian agents were working in Ukraine all the time. Many high-level Ukrainian politicians appeared to be Russian spies. In 2010-2014 we had a President, Minister of Defense and Head of Security Service of Ukraine working for Russia. It’s a miracle that we managed to tear off from them.

We want the US and our allies to help us beat the aggressor. But let’s look at history and see what we did wrong. We need to learn from our own mistakes. If we don’t, history will repeat itself.

I don’t think Ukraine has much to reproach itself with – with such a violent neighbour, whose ages of colonial rule (and post-colonial interference afterwards) have mounted up to the recent horrors following a brutal invasion. To clean up your own backyard first may serve as a call to action, but in the light of the American electoral confusion and the recent offensive by the russian maffia in the Donbass, one can only hope and pray that the brave Ukrainians remain steadfast as ever…. (I know, easier said than done from behind my screen, in a comfortably heated room in Holland.

🤔 Why should 450 million Europeans rely on 346 million Americans to protect them from 144 million russians?
🇺🇸 Whether it’s Trump or Harris, Europe’s security should remain unaffected… yet the reality tells a very different story.
Why should the security of Europe depend on decisions made by a few thousand people located thousands of kilometers away?
Europe is now anxious as the era of free-riding on U.S. defense spending appears to be coming to an end.
I remember a video in which our orange man, Trump, said that he would “𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐨𝐮𝐫𝐚𝐠𝐞” 𝐫𝐮𝐬𝐬𝐢𝐚 𝐭𝐨 𝐚𝐭𝐭𝐚𝐜𝐤 𝐚𝐧𝐲 𝐍𝐀𝐓𝐎 𝐦𝐞𝐦𝐛𝐞𝐫 𝐭𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐟𝐚𝐢𝐥𝐞𝐝 𝐭𝐨 𝐦𝐞𝐞𝐭 𝐢𝐭𝐬 𝐟𝐢𝐧𝐚𝐧𝐜𝐢𝐚𝐥 𝐜𝐨𝐦𝐦𝐢𝐭𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐬 𝐭𝐨 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐚𝐥𝐥𝐢𝐚𝐧𝐜𝐞. Back in 2014, only three NATO countries were meeting their financial obligations (the US, UK and Greece).
Can the U.S. realistically manage tensions in Europe, the Middle East, and the Indo-Pacific all on its own?
Which leads to the question: 𝐖𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐢𝐬 𝐍𝐀𝐓𝐎 𝐰𝐢𝐭𝐡𝐨𝐮𝐭 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐔.𝐒.?
🤔 For a time, I wondered how some Europeans, especially young people, could be so critical of America while simultaneously being free-riders on it for their security.
The U.S. has turned Europe into a region of “peaceniks” — so staunchly pro-peace and averse to military and weapons that it now works against Europe’s own interests. Europe has grown accustomed to promoting peace and democracy seeing the world through rose-colored glasses.
Until now, Europe could avoid trouble by turning a blind eye, appeasing, trading with rutin, and disregarding its neighbors’ security. This ignorance ultimately paved the way for 𝐫𝐮𝐬𝐬𝐢𝐚’𝐬 𝐟𝐮𝐥𝐥-𝐬𝐜𝐚𝐥𝐞 𝐢𝐧𝐯𝐚𝐬𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐨𝐟 𝐔𝐤𝐫𝐚𝐢𝐧𝐞.
In today’s harsh world, it’s naïve to believe in “peace on earth” when you have no control over others’ intentions or actions.
Regardless of who wins the U.S. elections, Europe must become self-sufficient in terms of defense. This is a crucial wake-up call for Europe to take responsibility for its own security.
🇺🇦 While Ukraine, every single day, is already defending European values of democracy, freedom, and the rule of law.
Give Ukraine everything necessary to win russia for the sake of lasting peace in Europe.
