Ukraine will not, under any circumstances, give Donbas to Russia under a peace agreement, so a compromise must be sought. This was stated by President Volodymyr Zelensky at a press conference , commenting on the results of the negotiations in Abu Dhabi.

“My position on our territories is unchanged,” he stressed.

At the same time, the president announced that the document on American security guarantees for Ukraine is already 100% ready, all that remains is to sign it.

“Specific security guarantees for Ukraine are provided by specific dates for the end of this war. (…) The document is one hundred percent ready. We expect a signal from our partners regarding the date and place of its signing. After that, it will be submitted for ratification to the US Congress and the Ukrainian Parliament,” Zelenskyy said.

Peace talks with Russia: latest news

As UNIAN reported, the key issue of the trilateral talks between Ukraine, the United States and Russia, held this week in the UAE, was the future fate of Donbas . The Kremlin demands that Ukraine hand over the remaining part of the Donetsk region under its control as a key condition for ending the war, and this is currently the main obstacle to the agreements. Moscow is promoting the so-called “Anchorage formula”, which envisages full Russian control over Donbas and a freeze of the front in other areas.

According to media reports, during these negotiations, the parties achieved some progress in the military block of issues , but there are still no agreements on the political part, in particular regarding territories.

Meanwhile, the Americans exude confidence (perhaps feigned) that the negotiations have made significant progress and things are moving almost towards a personal meeting between Zelensky and Putin .

  1. A deal is made? Great, let’s see if it holds up to public scrutiny. At least with ratification it should turn out better than Clinton’s capitulation project in 1994 that failed Ukraine in 2014.

  2. As long as the mafia state is not moving from its maximalist stance, and there’s no real pressure from Tacoland to do so, there will be no peace. Period.
