German Chancellor Friedrich Merz estimated the progress in the peaceful settlement of the Russian-Ukrainian war at only 2%. He expressed this opinion at the congress of the Christian Democratic Union branch in Osnabrück, writes TRT Global .

“We have taken the first steps. But I will say it figuratively: we are at a distance of ten kilometers and, perhaps, have passed the first two hundred meters. In any case, we are moving in the right direction,” he said.

According to Merz, in the last three weeks, Germany and the entire European Union have made more diplomatic efforts than ever before.Video of the day

“Let no one say today that we are only discussing the supply of weapons,” he emphasized.

The German Chancellor stressed that the task of resolving the war in the coming months remains very difficult, especially given the position of Russian dictator Vladimir Putin.

Merz predicted when the meeting between Zelensky and Putin will take place

Earlier, German Chancellor Friedrich Merz said that a meeting between Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and Russian dictator Vladimir Putin could take place by the end of August. He noted that the US president had already agreed on this with the Kremlin leader.

Merz added that the venue for the meeting has not yet been determined. He stressed that such a summit must be well prepared.

              • “letting ruSSia invade Ukraine”

It seems you need another reminder…

Let’s not forget that Trump had weakened NATO and vowed to pull the U.S. out of it if he won a second term. Biden and his secretary of state, Antony Blinken, had worked hard to pull the alliance back together.

Biden worked the phones and Blinken flew around the world, talking to allies not only to warn them but also to get pledges to pressure Russia, help Ukraine defend itself, and accept refugees if necessary. On one day alone, Biden spoke with leaders from the U.K., France, Germany, Italy, Canada, Poland, and Romania; the secretary general of NATO; and the presidents of the European Union.

Biden and Blinken anticipated Putin’s pretenses for an invasion of Ukraine and publicized them, taking away from the Russian president a key propaganda lever. Along with their allies, they warned they would respond to any invasion of Ukraine with heavy economic sanctions that would crush the Russian economy. This was a threat many observers met with skepticism, since sanctions imposed after Russia’s 2014 invasion and subsequent occupation of Ukraine had not been strong enough to force Putin to a reckoning.

            • I wouldn’t go nearly so far to call Biden’s handling of this war sanity. But, compared to taco’s, it was still much better. AT least Biden didn’t stick his face into the vampire’s anus like taco does at every opportunity.

                • I think every one of agrees that Biden is a coward. Too bad the current occupant of the WH is also a coward, and putler’s ass-kisser.

                  • I don’t think he’s a coward. He *did* visit Kyiv while the war is on. I think it’s more fair to say that he’s overly cautious, wanting to avoid the start of WW III.

                    • Sorry, Larry, but I closely watched Biden’s actions, and they left me very frustrated too many times. Biden doesn’t have much of a spine.
