In the Kupyansk direction, the Ukrainian Defense Forces are conducting a unique operation “Veles”, during which they have already destroyed more than a hundred Russian soldiers and captured more than 30 occupiers. Ukrainian defenders have advanced underground for more than 15 kilometers and are consolidating in new positions.
This was announced by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky on social media. The operation is being carried out by the 2nd Corps of the National Guard of Ukraine “Charter”.
The first results and progress of the operation were reported to the president by the Commander of the Land Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Mykhailo Drapaty, the Commander of the 2nd Corps of the National Guard of Ukraine “Charter” Ihor Obolensky, and the Deputy Head of the Presidential Office Pavlo Palis.
Ukrainian military used underground communications
The Russian occupiers tried to use the old main gas pipeline under the Oskil River to covertly penetrate the rear of the Armed Forces of Ukraine and reach Kupyansk from the north. The Ukrainian command outpaced the enemy and carried out an underground offensive.
“Ukrainian soldiers have successfully transformed this tactic, modernized it, made it much more thoughtful and technological. We are protecting the lives of our people, inflicting losses on the occupier, and achieving the set goals in the Kupyansk direction,” the president noted.

The operation is being conducted by the 2nd Corps of the National Guard of Ukraine “Charter”. The Ukrainian military combined an underground offensive with surface operations and drone strikes. Thanks to this, they prevented the occupiers from entering the rear of Kupyansk.
“The Russians intended to use the gas pipelines to penetrate the rear of our troops. We defeated the Russians in this battle. And we are confident that we will win this war,” the Charter emphasized.
As OBOZ.UA reported, the Ukrainian Defense Forces conducted an underground counteroffensive in the Kupyansk direction, advancing through underground communications into the rear of the Russian occupiers. The enemy suffered significant losses, and Operation Veles also dealt a blow to Russian logistics.
