The Russian occupiers in Sumy region have not had any success for a long time. Even a large group of the best military units of the Russian Federation did not help the invaders advance deep into Ukrainian territory.
This was reported by the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, citing the words of Commander-in-Chief Oleksandr Syrsky. The offensive actions of our defenders in this area continue.
“In the Sumy region, the enemy, one might say, suffered a defeat. Despite the fact that a truly powerful group of the best Russian units was concentrated there – paratroopers, marines, and the best motorized rifle units of the ground forces, the enemy has not had any success in the last two months,” the report says.
According to the commander-in-chief, the Russians, on the contrary, lost several settlements. In addition, the last attempt by Putin’s military to advance near the settlements of Stepne and Novokostyantynivka ended in complete failure.
“The invaders were destroyed, pushed back across the state border. And now we are continuing offensive operations there,” Syrsky noted.
As a reminder, on August 16, the General Staff reported on the successes of the Defense Forces on the border of Sumy region. In particular, in the relevant areas, the advance of Ukrainian units is from 1 to 2.5 km. Also, in the North Slobozhansk direction, Ukrainian defenders continue active actions aimed at destroying the enemy and liberating our settlements.
On August 6, it became known that Volodymyr Zelenskyy made a trip to Sumy Oblast, where he met with Ukrainian defenders and listened to reports from commanders. At the same time, he discussed with the military the provision of supplies, the training of recruits and instructors, and also presented state awards for participation in the Kursk operation.
As OBOZ.UA reported, in early August, the commander of the Airborne Assault Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Brigadier General Oleg Apostol, said that Ukrainian fighters had managed to partially stabilize the situation in the Sumy region, where the Russians were exerting pressure. According to him, in some places the invaders were pushed back from the settlements they had captured.
