Putin has hidden hundreds of billions of dollars all over the world, mostly in the EU, over a long time. Everyone is talking about the $300B in frozen assets, which is peanuts for the Russian dictator who has been in power for 25 years. Putin and his daughters have had multiple billion-dollar bank accounts since the beginning of the 2000s and have built great relationships with the leaders of many European countries. Moreover, his daughters have held EU citizenship for decades. Do you not think that, with his wealth, $300B is just a point of distraction for the world? There is so much money we do not even know about hidden in bank accounts by people loyal to him. Of the $300B we wrote about above, about $200B is hidden in Belgium alone. This is just one country in the EU!

There is a reason why the US investigated Russia’s interference in its 2016 presidential election. Russian money is still being paid to loyal EU politicians today. Why do we think so? How else would you explain German lawmakers from the far-right Alternative for Germany and the far-left #BSW parties boycotting the Ukrainian president and calling him a “begging president”? They said, “Ukraine needs a peace president willing to negotiate, not a war president.”

Only corrupt politicians could say this to a president who is trying to save his people from genocide as #Putin kills thousands of Ukrainians. They want to force #Zelenskyy to negotiate with a terrorist, and negotiation means land concessions and admitting that Putin won.
We all talk about corruption in Ukraine, but how about corruption in the EU?

In view of the current situation, it is worth spending less time on philosophizing about what corruption is and focus on the failure of the legal authorities that allowed these two persons and their ilk to be free and decide who lives and who dies.

Criminal investigations into bribes by Russia have started already, after the Czech intelligence services picked up on the influence operations done via “Voice of Europe”:

In Germany, the involved politicians have lost the immunity and criminal investigations are ongoing. But, those were probably only the tip of the iceberg and easily identified in the extreme right party. I am more worried what might be going on within the mainstream parties.

And not to forget: Russia’s interests and the interests of oil, gas and also nuclear energy focussed industry and politicians (including the combustion engine automobile industry) aligns. Therefore it can be difficult to assess if something is “pro Russia” or if something is just coincidentally “also benefitting Russia”.

AfD are corrupt by nature. BSW are Putin’s useful idiots, who don’t understand that negotiations requires willingness to implement agreements.

Something that Pathological Liar Putin is not going to do.

  1. I always say that corruption in wider spread in Europe than the Europeans like to admit.
And, you can add the stupid faces of Merkel, Berlusconi, Sarkozy, Orb-anus, Fico, Kurz, and many other corrupt putler ass-kissers to the image above.

  2. Corruption is a global problem and the EU ain’t an exception (and neither the US, with its system of legalized bribery by donations). We know the reports about corruption in the EU parliament, after all. And also the coverage of corruption in member states, traditionally especially Italy and Greece, and nowadays Hungary, which should rather be called Orbanistan. The question should be, isn’t Ukraine already a more lawful country than those badly reputed nations? I guess that may be so, because of the Ukrainian government’s strong anti-corruption program, which exceeds those of may other governments. Perversely, the often cited Corruption PERCEPTION Index is biased against those countries that do more to fight bribery, because there will be more media reports there than in countries with weak checks and balances and political sugarcoating of “pay-to-play” deals. And on the other hand, it’s certainly true that the war has increased Russian attempts at buying political leverage in EU member states, including Germany. So, this is a hot topic, and instead of unfair fingerpointing at Ukraine, there should be more self reflection in Euopean countries. The ancient advice of the bible, in Mathew 7:3, is still true: “Why beholdest thou the mote that is in thy brother’s eye, but considerest not the beam that is in thine own eye?”

  3. corruption is Putin’s mode of influence, his cancer soft power – Putin has been waging a hybrid war on the West for 20 years. as such, as structures to be weakened, Ukraine and the EU are particularly targeted by Putin.
culturally philosophically, the EU, which distributes public money, fights against the rot of corruption.
“corruption” in the Russian world is more cultural and one of the consequences of the collapse of the USSR where salaries were no longer paid… it is felt less as a misappropriation/decay than in the EU…
the EU realizes that the war did not start 2 years ago but much longer… and as rot is an existential risk for it we can bet that it will manage the problem.
