Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić stated during a visit to Moscow that his country remains on the European path.

In a comment to Serbian broadcaster RTS, the politician said he expects consequences from the European Union for his decision to attend the military parade on May 9, but he will feel them personally, not the country. According to him, instead of understanding the Serbian position, some Western officials are “sending threats and intimidation”:
“Instead of treating us with understanding and condescension, as a small nation that was greatly wronged by taking away 14 percent of our territory, today they have their own interests and are telling us: ‘Don’t go back to the past.'”
Vucic stressed that he had warned European leaders about his trip to Russia. According to him, Ukraine has never done anything bad to Serbia and he has had several meetings with its President Volodymyr Zelensky, so he will also meet with the Kremlin’s ruler Putin.
The Serbian president told reporters that his country must look after its own interests, so he and Russia, which has not recognized Kosovo’s independence, will discuss issues of economy, energy and gas supplies. He also called the opportunity to meet with Chinese President Xi Jinping and Putin a “huge honor.” He also has meetings scheduled with the president of Kazakhstan and Patriarch Kirill of the Russian Orthodox Church.
