Volker: France and Germany do not put enough pressure on Russia in Normandy format

Former U.S. Special Representative for Ukraine Negotiations Kurt Volker says he is disappointed with the position of Germany and France that seek to avoid accusations against Russia regarding non-compliance with the Minsk agreements.

“Unfortunately, the United States does not play a big role in supporting this process after I resigned in September. I think we really lost in this, and now everything is really on the shoulders of France and Germany,” Volker said during an online conference on the current situation in Donbas organized by the Atlantic Council on June 10, an Ukrinform own correspondent reports.

In this context, he noted that he was “very disappointed” with the situation. “France and Germany do not clearly state that Russia violates the Minsk agreements,” Volker explained.

Russia is a party to the agreement, one of the signatories, not an external observer as Moscow is trying to present its position, the diplomat stressed.

“It [Russia] is the main protagonist of the conflict and is a party to the agreements, and it does not fulfil the commitments made. And I think this is one of the most important things,” Volker said.

  1. We have said this for years, but it’s good of Volker to speak the truth, now he’s not tied down to diplomacy.

  2. Since mafia land has invaded Ukraine six years ago, we have seen more than enough what France and Germany are, pathetic cowards.
