On the night of Thursday, August 14, Volgograd, Russia, was again attacked by drones. Local residents reported explosions and air defenses, and then a fire with smoke. According to them, the fire broke out at a local oil refinery (REF). This was later confirmed by local authorities.
The incident involved the Lukoil-Volgogradneftepererabotka refinery in the city’s Krasnoarmiysky district. The Russians posted footage of the aftermath of the attack online.
The refinery was under attack
Local residents wrote about several drone hits on the Lukoil refinery in Volgograd.
Authorities soon acknowledged a “fire and oil product leak” at the refinery . Governor Andriy Bocharov said it was caused by falling debris from a UAV after the attack.
“Tonight, the air defense forces of the Russian Ministry of Defense repelled a massive UAV attack on the territory of the Volgograd region. As a result of falling debris, oil products spilled and caught fire at the Volgograd Oil Refinery. Fire services quickly began extinguishing the fire. According to preliminary data, there were no casualties,” he said.
It should be noted that temporary restrictions on the acceptance and release of aircraft have been introduced at Volgograd Airport.
NASA satellites recorded a large-scale fire at the LUKOIL-Volgogradneftepererabotka refinery. And the Telegram channel Exilenova+ published footage confirming the damage to the Russian plant.
What preceded this?
On August 13, explosions also occurred in Volgograd, in particular in the area where the Lukoil-Volgogradneftepererabotka refinery is located. The wreckage of a drone shot down by Russian air defense fell on a high-rise building.
Local publications wrote at night that “up to 20 units were recorded in the direction” of the refinery. And in the morning, the Russian Defense Ministry announced the “shooting down” of 11 drones over the Volgograd region. Where the rest went and how effective this attack was is currently unknown.
As OBOZ.UA reported, on the night of August 13, 2025, the Defense Forces of Ukraine struck a strategic facility of the Russian occupiers in the Bryansk region. Drones of the Main Intelligence Directorate and units of the Unmanned Systems Forces, in cooperation with other components of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, struck the Unecha oil pumping station in the city of Unecha, which provides military logistics for the Russian army.
