The two senators are at opposite ends of the spectrum on aid to Ukraine.

U.S. Sen. Mark Kelly (D-Ariz.), Vice President Kamala Harris’ running mate, took aim at Republican vice presidential nominee Sen. J.D. Vance on Wednesday , saying he would “abandon” Ukraine to Russia.

“It’s very clear to me that you have J.D. Vance, who wants to completely abandon Ukraine, and you have Donald Trump, who has been quite pro-Russian in the past and has supported Vladimir Putin in a way that I would never expect a president to do,” Kelly said in a brief interview with POLITICO.

He noted that Americans have a serious choice to make.

“I would be very concerned about what these guys would do if they abandoned an ally for an adversary. And that would be a much more dangerous world,” Kelly added.

The two senators are at opposite ends of the spectrum on aid to Ukraine.

As the ranking member of the Senate Armed Services Committee and a former Navy pilot, Kelly has been a vocal defender of Ukraine and has been hands-on in training Ukrainian F-16 pilots at Davis-Monthan Air Force Base in his home state. Vance, a Marine Corps veteran, has been a vocal opponent of aid to Ukraine, saying it prolongs a bloody war Kyiv cannot win.

Kelly said he used the opportunity to meet with U.S. diplomatic and military officials to discuss how U.S. security assistance has helped Ukraine resist Russia’s two-year invasion.

  1. Trump made a huge mistake in picking vanzkov. The maga Ukraine-hating component is relatively small compared to the population of all possible trump voters. Gramps Joe was too far gone to recognize the opportunity to beat on the trump campaign for being Russia friendly. Harris and her running mate have the winning strategy here as most Americans don’t want to hand Putin a victory. There’s one caveat. If Putin’s hackers can crack databases on certain state election servers and flip votes, something you know they’d live to do, then Putin will pick the president.

  2. Harris is the likely replacement for Biden, but it’s not yet official. Kelly is on her short list for VP, but she hasn’t yet decided. I certainly hope she picks him. There is some resistance among certain Democrats because he wouldn’t go along with a labor law they want to pass.

  3. The best ticket would actually be Kelly for president and Harris for vice president.
