Vadym Novynskyi: Zelenskyy Should Resign, and the Rada Should Send a Delegation to Moscow

Recent events (the agreements between Donald Trump and Vladimir Putin, the failure of the Ukrainian delegation’s negotiations in Miami, the Ukrainian leadership’s harsh statements directed at the U.S., etc.) point to the need for Volodymyr Zelenskyy’s immediate resignation and the transfer of powers to the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine.

The Ukrainian parliament, whose legitimacy no one doubts, must recognize its responsibility to the people, take power into its own hands, and form a working group to negotiate with the Russian Federation on ending the war and the terms of a peace treaty—without intermediaries, without preconditions, and without diplomatic dictates from so-called “partners.”

The entire history of the war between Russia and Ukraine shows that the tragedy might never have begun if the Ukrainian leadership, which came to power on promises of peace, had upheld its campaign pledges and heeded the sentiments of the 73% of Ukrainian voters who cast their ballots for Volodymyr Zelenskyy in 2019. The president had everything—a mandate of trust from the people, a supermajority in the Verkhovna Rada—but he chose to heed the opinions of Western advisers and the nationalist minority in Ukraine. One day, a fair court will determine what drove Zelenskyy—a desire for applause, fear, or vanity—but it was he who led the country to disaster.

Fate gave Volodymyr Zelenskyy a chance to come to his senses, learn from his mistakes, and stop the war in April 2022 during the negotiations in Istanbul. And the negotiation process (which I was also involved in organizing) was moving precisely toward reaching important compromises.

But Zelenskyy chose the path of war. And since April 2022, the war has entered a new phase: from that moment on, it has become a war not for the interests of Ukraine and its people, but for the interests of Zelenskyy’s European “friends.” And we must realize that now any peace terms will be harsher for Ukraine than those proposed in Istanbul. And perhaps that is not even the main issue: over the years of war, Ukraine has lost millions of citizens, thousands of square meters of territory, and entire sectors of the economy—and all of these are irreparable losses that will have a very serious impact on the future of our people.

Today, the country’s true patriots must understand two things. First: Volodymyr Zelenskyy will never agree to end the war, and his time in power guarantees that the war will continue. Second: the continuation of the war will result in Ukraine’s complete loss of statehood and a catastrophe for its people.

It is Zelenskyy—whose competence and sound judgment are seriously in doubt—who is the main enemy of Ukraine and its people.

If the Verkhovna Rada recognizes its responsibility for Ukraine’s fate, and if the deputies remember that they took an oath to the people—not to Zelenskyy— — they are obligated to exercise the powers granted by the Constitution, form a working group, and begin direct peace negotiations—anywhere in the world, including Moscow.

The SBU and other security agencies must remember their mission to defend Ukraine, not the interests of Zelenskyy and his corrupt inner circle.

Too much is at stake. The people are waiting for justice and decisiveness. Ukraine cannot remain a hostage to the unhealthy ambitions and personal interests of a man who imagines himself to be Napoleon.

As a reminder, the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine has imposed sanctions against Vadym Novynskyi.

Vadym Novynskyi is a former member of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine (9th convocation), founder of Smart Holding. Subject to sanctions imposed by Ukraine’s National Security and Defense Council (NSDC).

  1. Zelenskyy would probably resign in a New York minute if he thought it would end the war. What would the Rada do in negotiations??? Buy more diesel?

  2. “Subject to sanctions imposed by Ukraine’s National Security and Defense Council (NSDC).”

Vadym Vladyslavovych Novynskyi is a Russian-born Ukrainian billionaire businessman, deacon and politician of Armenian descent. He is the owner of the Smart Holding Group, which has made him one of the wealthiest people in Ukraine.

Ukraine imposed and extended personal economic sanctions against former pro-Russian MP and billionaire Vadym Novynskyi due to his alleged ties to Russia and the Russian Orthodox Church.

Key Details of the Sanctions & Legal Actions

    • Initial Sanctions: Ukraine’s National Security and Defense Council (NSDC) first placed Novynskyi on its sanctions list in December 2022 and January 2023, implementing a 5-year asset freeze. [1, 2, 3]
    • Extension: In June 2024, Ukraine extended personal economic sanctions against Novynskyi and hundreds of other individuals for 10 years via Presidential Decrees Nos. 376/2024 and 377/2024. [1]
    • Asset Seizures: Ukrainian authorities (SBU) seized billions of hryvnias in Novynskyi’s domestic assets—including dozens of enterprise ownership deeds and gas wells—after accusing him of attempting to evade restrictions by transferring shares to a Cypriot trust. [1, 2]
    • Criminal Charges: In January 2025, Ukraine’s State Bureau of Investigation charged Novynskyi in absentia with high treason (Article 111) and incitement of religious hatred (Article 161), carrying a potential sentence of up to 15 years in prison. A Kyiv court subsequently ordered his arrest in absentia, and he has been placed on a wanted list. [1, 2]
