US will cut aid to Ukraine, so EU must maintain supplies – Borrell

The EU warns that victory over Russia will not be quick.

The volume of American aid to Ukraine is likely to decrease, so EU countries should continue to support Kiev in the future. EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs Josep Borrell stated this  during his speech in Malaga, Spain.

He noted that a united Europe faces many problems and challenges, among which support for Ukraine comes first. According to Borrell, the prospect of a Ukrainian victory over Russia “is not immediate.”

“And we Europeans, who have the necessary means to do this, must be ready to continue to help Ukraine, given that US support is likely to decrease,” the diplomat said.

The problem with American aid to Ukraine

As UNIAN wrote, the US Congress does not have enough votes to adopt a new defense support program for Ukraine. Republican deputies from among the so-called “Trumpists” are categorically against this, and without their votes it is impossible to pass the program. Recently, the upper house of Congress blocked the decision of the lower house to allocate aid to Israel precisely because this package did not include aid to Ukraine.

As the White House warned, in the near future, new packages of military assistance to Ukraine from the United States will become increasingly smaller , because the amount of funds previously allocated for this purpose is already being exhausted.

  1. Not only did it not include aid for Ukraine but also slashed IRS budget. EU should ramp up as if US can not or will not, and I hope and pray to God US gets it’s shit together.

  2. To “maintain” supplies, the EU will need to increase its share. This won’t be possible without ramping up production, which needs to hapoen now. Also, countries which haven’t contributed according to their economic power yet (coughFrancecough) need to finally get their ‘merde’ together. If Europe wants to have any say in the world in the future, its members need to prove they’re able and willing to confront a minor power like Russia, when it’s a severe risk to peaceful coexistence on the continent. There can’t be any excuses for failing to meet the demands of such a critical situation!

the EU is the largest donor ahead of the USA.
the USA is the big donor of weapons.

yesterday Zelenski thanked Macron for his real effective support and Charles Michel for their vision and actions – I don’t see it on your site where only part of the truth interests you with a taste of some for French bashing. If there is a country in Europe that wants a powerful EU, and to stop relying on Americans like castrated teenagers, it is France. who is endowed with a share and operates in the world, and does not have to be ashamed of his army – even if it should be bigger. for the moment the EU is a conglomerate of nations with different views and often national egoisms which suits the other dominant powers. if you think you’re a white knight I can hold up a mirror to you so that you can also see your dark side.
Your arms industry saves us today but it also has many perverse effects, for you internally and for others externally, while everyone cleans up their own door.

Furthermore, what we give, what is publicly reported does not reflect reality, so if you do not have superior information your word is worthless. I’ve said it here twice.

  3. “The EU warns that victory over Russia will not be quick.”

The EU has moved much too timidly, too slowly, and too cowardly to achieve a quicker victory. I hope they know this … if they aren’t yet willing to admit it.

  4. “Republican deputies from among the so-called “Trumpists” are categorically against this, and without their votes it is impossible to pass the program.”

That’s nonsense. There’s plenty of votes to support Ukraine. All the Republicans need to do is to work with the Democrats, rather than bow to the wishes of a demented minority.
