He said they should have “rotted in prison.”

Deputy Chairman of the Security Council of the Russian Federation Dmitry Medvedev advised those released during the exchange to enter a witness protection program.

The former Russian president said he would like “traitors to Russia to rot in prison or die in jail, as often happens,” but it would be more useful to bring back those who worked for the country.

“And let the traitors now feverishly select new names and actively disguise themselves under the witness protection program,” he wrote on his Telegram channel.

The Great Exchange between Russia and the West

As UNIAN reported, a major prisoner exchange took place on Thursday, August 1.  Journalists Alsa Kurmasheva and Evan Gershkovich, as well as former Marine Paul Whelan, were returned to the United States.

Among those released are foreigners and Russian oppositionists, human rights activists and journalists: Ilya Yashin, Vladimir Kara-Murza, Andrei Pivovarov, Oleg Orlov, Alexandra Skochilenko, Liliya Chanysheva, Ksenia Fadeeva, Rico Krieger, Kevin Leake, nDemuri Voroni, Vadim Patrick Shebel and German Moyzhes.

Eight people were returned to Russia, including Vadim Krasikov, convicted in Germany for the murder of Chechen field commander Zelimkhan Khangoshvili.

According to Dmitry Peskov, Krasikov served in Alpha along with several of Putin’s security personnel.

  2. This is from an article on KyivPost.

Russia may see the exchange as a great success and “wonderful victory”, political analyst Ekaterina Schulmann said in an interview with Russia’s independent TV Rain.

But the reality was more nuanced.

“Russia is getting eight clumsy losers who couldn’t do their job and got caught,” she said.

“While it is giving away people who, if they want to and if they are able, will become significant political public figures.”

She has a point. These 8 imbeciles got caught. Their exposure means they are no longer useful to the Kremlin, and behind the scenes, they might disappear forever. Putler has no idea how much these spies and terrorists talked, or what they talk about while in captivity.

  3. But they completed their mission. And l bet too, some will be used again, and others, disposed of.

  4. RuSSia is an islamized shithole like France, Germany and the UK. Why should i prefer ruSSia over Ukraine? Beyond me…

  5. We must stop fantasizing about possible punishments for those released on the West side. Such exchanges necessarily involve security guarantees from each party in order to trigger diplomatic dynamics. It is the capacity of States to negotiate which is at stake here.

Furthermore, I remain convinced that these exchanges are linked to other conditions directly linked to the conflict in Ukraine that no one will want to violate. Whatever the activities of the dissidents, they have no risk even if they wander around Red Square.
