The US wants a broader economic deal.
The US wants to renegotiate the terms of the mining deal and include the Russian-occupied Zaporizhzhya nuclear power plant in a wider economic deal with Ukraine, the Financial Times reports .
Washington wants Kyiv to agree to detailed provisions on who controls the joint investment fund, as well as a broader framework potentially covering U.S. ownership of other economic assets, such as Ukraine’s nuclear power plants, two Ukrainian officials told the publication.

Speaking at the White House on Thursday, Trump said the United States is seeking to sign rare earth metals and minerals deals around the world, but Ukraine is a focus.
At the same time, Volodymyr Zelensky told the FT during an online briefing with journalists on Wednesday that he had discussed only one nuclear facility with Trump: the Zaporizhia nuclear power plant, the largest in Europe.
At the same time, Ukrainian officials said they were concerned they would be pressured to accept unfavorable terms in a broader deal, especially after Washington temporarily suspended arms sales and intelligence sharing with Kiev earlier this month.
The agreement remains unsigned as the two sides engage in complex negotiations involving broader economic and security issues, Ukrainian and U.S. officials said.
At the same time, two senior Ukrainian officials involved in negotiations with the United States over Ukraine’s mineral resources said that the Trump administration has not yet presented Kyiv with new conditions.
“But I understand that… they are working on a more ambitious agreement,” one of them said.
The US wants to control Ukrainian nuclear power plants
Following a conversation between Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and US President Donald Trump, the White House said Trump offered Ukraine “American ownership” of nuclear power plants , which would be the “best protection” for them.
Zelensky subsequently said that during a telephone conversation with Trump, the possibility of resuming the operation of the Zaporizhzhya NPP was discussed . At the same time, he emphasized that all nuclear power plants belong to the state of Ukraine, including the Zaporizhzhya NPP.

Thats good, send American troops to it and liberate the plant from Russian soldiers.
I just don’t believe or trust him. I can see us turning it over to the US and then the they turn it over to Moskali, saying they can operate the plant they see fit. We need to shed ourselves from this fool as quickly as possible, not jump into bed with him.
Trump is such a scumbag. He knows Ukraine is in a weak position so he wants to blackmail his way into the country. I say NO now or this crap is just the beginning. He’s going to pick through our bones very quickly. He is such a pariah.
My instant reaction when this story first broke was there is some trickery/deception going on here. Why would putler hand over the ZNPP to trumpkov? What’s in it for the nazi scrote?
It is puzzling.
If Zel accepted and putler refused, would trumpkov back off or send troops in to secure it? The former seems far more likely.
Why can’t trumpkov simply provide everything Ukraine needs to recover the integrity of its borders? He could and would be paid handsomely for his efforts with Ukrainian mineral resources.
Amen Scradgel. Amen.
Neither the rashists nor U.S. , should be in control of the ZNPP. It belongs to Ukraine period!
