The first Trump administration official to visit Ukraine will be a minister who will come for Ukrainian resources.
US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent is scheduled to visit Ukraine this week for initial talks on securing US access to critical minerals .
This was reported by Bloomberg , citing sources . It is noted that Scott Bessent will be the first representative of Trump’s team to visit Ukraine.
Notably, Bessent’s visit comes just days after US President Donald Trump said his administration wanted to strike a deal with Ukraine on access to resources in exchange for help defending it from a Russian invasion.
Earlier, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said he planned to meet with “serious people” from the Trump administration in Ukraine before the Munich Security Conference, which begins on Friday, February 14. The Ukrainian president also expressed openness to a deal that would provide greater U.S. support in exchange for some of Ukraine’s mineral wealth.
Ukraine has significant reserves of uranium and several important minerals, including titanium, lithium and graphite. The Ukrainian government estimates that they could be worth trillions of dollars.
