The leader of the opposition Republican Party in the US Senate, Mitch McConnell , called on the ruling Democratic Party to provide assistance to Ukraine faster, as well as to include more air defense, long-range weapons, humanitarian and economic aid before winter in the aid package.

In his address, McConnell urged US President Joe Biden and Ukraine’s allies around the world to act quickly and proactively when it comes to helping Kiev, Voice of America reports .

“Russia continues to escalate its attacks on Ukrainian civilian and energy infrastructure,” the senator said. “This is a clear lesson for us. The Biden administration and Ukraine’s friends around the world must provide Ukraine with what it needs faster and more proactively.”

“The Biden administration and our allies must do more to provide Ukraine with the necessary tools to overcome Russian aggression. Obviously, this should include additional air defense systems, long-range weapons, humanitarian and economic support to help this war-torn country survive the coming winter,” – the statement says.

The senator urged allies to increase aid to Ukraine and said that both parties in Congress supported aid to Ukraine “on an overwhelming bipartisan basis.”

McConnell, in his statement, assured that if the Republican Party wins a majority in the US Senate, it will “focus on oversight and the timely delivery of necessary weapons and increase joint assistance with allies to Ukraine, restore and modernize military capabilities.”

US assistance to Ukraine

The US Congress is working on a new $50 billion aid package for Ukraine.

On May 19, the US Senate approved a $40 billion emergency military and humanitarian aid package for Ukraine. On May 21, US President Joe Biden signed the document.

On September 21, the President of the United States announced that the United States had already allocated more than $25 billion to help Ukraine.

On October 1, Biden signed into law an “appropriation extension and additional allocation of funds for Ukraine for 2023” providing more than $12.3 billion in additional assistance to Ukraine.

  1. Once GOP won back the Congress the pressure to send more sophisticated bigger toys will hopefully increase.

  2. He says if the Republicans win control, they will provide more, not less help for Ukraine. Which goes directly against what the putinoid snot Kevin McCarthy said.
Which one has the more influence? McCarthy or Mitch? Let’s hope it’s the latter. He has been consistently supportive of Ukraine, along with Marco Rubio, over quite a few years.
Are there any up and coming young GOP politicians who take a robust line on the tiny genocide fanatic?
Roger Wicker is superb, but he’s an elderly fellow too.
