US Senate postpones tough sanctions against Russia: media give reasons

Lindsey Graham assured that the Russian-Ukrainian war remains a priority for him.

The US Senate has decided to postpone consideration of a bill on tough sanctions against Russia . The main reason was the escalation of hostilities between Israel and Iran. This is reported by the Semafor publication .

It is noted that the co-authors of the bill, Lindsey Graham and Richard Blumenthal, want to make technical amendments to the bill, which are designed to ease the pressure on Ukraine’s allies. A consensus has already been reached among senators, but they decided to postpone consideration of the document until at least July.

The publication added that another reason to postpone consideration of the bill was new tax initiatives from the Republican Party. Senator John Thune said that the Senate is open to changes, but is waiting for a signal from the administration of US President Donald Trump.

The American leader himself has not yet approved the bill. The publication noted that he has focused on domestic politics and a possible military conflict with Iran. That is why consideration of other bills has been postponed.

Graham said the Russian-Ukrainian war remains a priority for him. He assured that the fact that “Iran is now in the spotlight does not mean that he has forgotten about Russia or Ukraine.”
