The resolution proposed by the US “calls for an end to the conflict as soon as possible and further calls for a lasting peace between Ukraine and Russia.”

The United States is putting forward an alternative UN resolution on Ukraine, contrasting it with the European project, Reuters writes .

The United States submitted a draft resolution to the United Nations on Friday to mark the third anniversary of Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine. The document competes with a text that Ukraine and its European allies plan to put to a vote at the UN General Assembly on Monday.

US President Donald Trump’s attempt to mediate an end to the war has sparked disagreements with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and concerns among European partners about the potential isolation of Kyiv and Europe from peace talks.

The three-paragraph US draft, seen by Reuters, expresses regret over the civilian casualties in the “Russian-Ukrainian conflict”. It also reaffirms “that the primary purpose of the United Nations is the maintenance of international peace and security and the peaceful settlement of disputes”.

The resolution proposed by the US “calls for an end to the conflict as soon as possible and further calls for a lasting peace between Ukraine and Russia.”

Russia proposed an amendment to this paragraph, adding the wording: “calls for an end to the conflict as soon as possible, including by eliminating its root causes, and further calls for a lasting peace between Ukraine and Russia.”

Russia’s UN envoy Vasily Nebenzya praised the American initiative, saying it was a “good step.” According to an anonymous Russian diplomat, Moscow is ready to support the US resolution if the amendment is adopted.

Nebenzya said American diplomats had informed him in advance about the draft’s preparation before it was submitted for consideration to the General Assembly, which includes 193 countries.

At the same time, on Monday the UN General Assembly will consider an alternative draft resolution prepared by Ukraine and the European Union. It calls for de-escalation, an immediate end to hostilities and a peaceful settlement in accordance with the UN Charter and international law.

Diplomats said EU envoys to the UN planned to meet later on Friday to discuss their response to the US move.

Over the past month, Kyiv and Brussels have been actively consulting with UN member states. Although General Assembly resolutions are not legally binding, they have significant political influence because they reflect global attitudes toward the war.

The USA says also in this way: The Nazi regime in Ukraine must be defeated and Ukraine no Army nor NATO membership.

    What did America vote for?

    • Never mind the UN, Veth, what results will any UN resolution bring? That’s right, none. Europe certainly won’t screw itself by throwing Ukraine under the bus. They might be weaklings, but not suicidal.

  2. THE USA BRINGS IN THE RUSSIAN RESOLUTION ABOUT UKRAINE TO PASS IT……………………AND UKRAINE WILL BE GONE.
