Global military spending rose by 2.9%, driven by growth in Europe.

Global military spending is set to rise by 2.9% in 2025, with the United States seeing a sharp drop of 7.5% as President Donald Trump halted new military aid to Ukraine, Reuters reported , citing a report by the Stockholm International Peace Research Institute (SIPRI).

According to the report, military spending is set to rise to $2.89 trillion in 2025, the 11th consecutive year of growth, with spending as a share of global gross domestic product (GDP) reaching 2.5%, the highest level since 2009.

“Given the scale of the current crises, as well as the long-term goals of many states for military spending, this growth is likely to continue in 2026 and beyond,” the SIPRI report said.

The three largest countries in terms of military spending – the United States, China, and Russia – accounted for a combined $1.48 trillion, or 51% of global spending.

At the same time, US military spending in 2025 decreased to $954 billion, mainly due to the lack of new financial military assistance to Ukraine. Over the previous three years, US funding for Ukraine amounted to $127 billion.

However, analysts emphasize that the decline in US military spending in 2025 is likely to be short-lived.

“Spending approved by the U.S. Congress for 2026 has increased to more than $1 trillion, a significant increase from 2025, and could increase even more to $1.5 trillion in 2027,” the report said.

The main contributor to the increase in global spending was a 14% increase in Europe to $864 billion. Increased spending by European NATO members led to the sharpest annual increase in Central and Western Europe since the end of the Cold War.

      • And for turning the U.S. into a pathetic banana republic and for refusing to release the Epstein-Trump files.

        • Someone is misleading you. The courts and lawyers are still going through the Epstein files. Both parties want to see them. Also, if you want credibility, ask yourself why Biden did nothing with them for his 4 years?

          • trumpkov’s DOJ withheld lots of documents that should have been released, and illegally redacted lots of stuff that should not have been redacted (along with failing to redact the names of some victims).

After trumpkov dumped Pam Bondi and replaced her with Todd Blanche, Blanche stated that the Epstein files “should not be a part of anything going forward” for the Justice Department.

He’s being sued because of his failure to comply with the Epstein Files Transparency Act.

          • “why Biden did nothing with them for his 4 years?”

The Epstein records were sealed by a judge until after Ghislaine Maxwell’s trial. They weren’t unsealed until January 2024. So, Biden couldn’t release what wasn’t legally available.

Also, as has been explained here numerous times, Biden didn’t run a cult. He let the DOJ operate independently – unlike trumpkov, who demands loyalty oaths and treats every agency like his personal operatives.

And no Democrat ran on a platform promising to release the Epstein files. trumpkov did. Then blocked them.

          • Biden? Maybe because the Democrats also have pedophiles in their ranks??? I don’t buy the bullshit about courts and lawyers. We’re living in a fucking banana republic. When El Presidente says, nyet, there will be no files released, at least not without MASSIVE redactions.
