The United States of America handed over to the Russian side Washington’s written response to the Kremlin’s “security guarantees” on  NATO policy . The US hopes Putin will read the message.

The Washington Post writes about it .

At the same time, the Americans asked Russian diplomats not to publish the letter and “keep it secret,” although they believe that the Russians might do otherwise.

The Biden administration’s written response would include US security proposals and “demonstrate Washington’s interest in offering dialogue,” a State Department spokesman said on condition of anonymity.

While the response falls short of Russia’s assurances regarding NATO membership policy, the White House hopes Russian President Vladimir Putin will read the letter.

“There is only one decision maker in Russia and that is President Putin. If it allows the final decision maker in Russia to consider these ideas and decide whether to move forward or not, then that is in our interest,” said another spokesman. the Biden administration.

The US does not want to be the one to rule out a potential diplomatic solution.

What came before

On January 21, US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken and Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov met in Geneva and discussed Russian troops around Ukraine.

Lavrov called the meeting “interim” and insisted that Washington respond to “security guarantees” for Ukraine and NATO, while Blinken warned of a cost to the Kremlin for an invasion.

After that,  Blinken had a conversation with Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmitry Kuleba , he told his Ukrainian colleague the results of the conversation with Lavrov.

Russia’s claims to NATO through Ukraine

During the Geneva talks, NATO rejected the Russians’ claims , saying that the “open door” policy would be decided directly by the members of the North Atlantic Treaty.

As a result of the talks, the Deputy Foreign Minister of the Russian Federation complained about the “impenetrable position” of the parties on “security guarantees.”

Recall that in December Russia sent its ultimatum to the West on Ukraine’s integration into NATO, which it called “security guarantees.” Moscow is convinced that the Alliance troops in Eastern Europe threaten their national security.

Under the pretext of “protecting the security” of the Russian Federation, Russian officials regularly threaten military intervention on the territory of Ukraine.

    I smell a rat.
I don’t trust the Biden administration. It has been weak and malicious and incompetent, through and through. Sleepy is under a lot of pressure in the US and I don’t think that he has the strength or capability to muster enough concentration and determination to withstand mafia land. The only response to mafia land’s insane demands is to arm Ukraine massively and to threaten this rogue with more than just financial consequences, like air support for Ukraine. We will see neither thing happening. There simply is not enough substance to force the rodent not to attack.

    • Awful for Ukraine. Never in history has a Christian country been under such a severe existential threat for so long without an adequate response from so-called allies.

  2. Both RuSSia and the US (currently flatlining thanks to Biden) forget that not they but Kyiv decides Ukraine’s future. You can agree on crapping on each other, that won’t influence Kyiv. No deals without Ukraine!
