In Damascus, a US delegation met with representatives of the new Syrian government.

The United States has canceled a previously announced $10 million reward for Ahmed al-Sharaa, who became one of the leaders of the uprising that overthrew Syrian dictator Bashar Assad .

The decision to cancel the award for Sharaa was made as part of a “political decision” related to the beginning of US contacts with rebel leaders, Assistant Secretary of State for Near Eastern Affairs Barbara Leaf said, Voice of America reports.

According to Leaf, Sharaa took into account that “terrorist groups should not pose a threat either inside Syria or outside it, including the United States.” The assistant secretary of state noted that the Syrian representative already knows that the reward for his capture has been canceled.

“We support a Syrian-led political process that will lead to the establishment of a government that respects the rights of all Syrians, including women, as well as ethnic and religious communities,” Leaf explained the US position.

The diplomat emphasized that Iran, which supported the Assad regime, will not influence the new Syrian government.the Armed Forces of Ukraine eliminated

The publication recalled that the visit of the US delegation to Damascus was preceded by a meeting in Aqaba, Jordan, where American, Arab and Turkish representatives agreed on “principles of a transition period” for Syria.
