The transfer is likely to be announced next week, one official said on condition of anonymity.
The package will include mobile rocket launchers that can fire much farther than the launchers currently used by Ukraine.
Although officials have not provided details on exactly what types of missiles the United States will provide, the Pentagon most commonly uses the M31 GMLRS (Gueded Multiple Launch Rocket System), a satellite-guided precision weapon.
The missiles reach over 40 miles (65 km), far beyond the range of any artillery currently used by Ukraine.
The official said the administration is trying to make sure the United States can make a valid case that it is not giving Ukraine the opportunity to strike deep into Russia.

The launchers will join the 155mm howitzers the United States began sending to Ukraine last month as Russia moved into a new phase of the war, focusing on seizing more territory in the Donbas in eastern Ukraine.

Must be true, going by the amount of whining coming out of mafia land. I would hope they are in Ukraine already, not still in the US waiting to be shipped.
I think that the Ukrainian military is waiting to get reinforced by the MLRS and more 155 mm howitzers and MBTs, before it can do anything about mafia advances. This is a very wise decision. It’s also a very wise decision by the Biden administration to send MLRS to Ukraine.
The M-142 HIMARS is the better choice than the M-270 MLRS. It is the more modern weapon.
