US President Donald Trump has decided to release two Russian citizens from the crew of the tanker Bella 1 (Marinera) in response to a request from the Russian Foreign Ministry.
This was reported by the representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Maria Zakharova, reports Censor.NET .
According to her, the Russian side has already begun “working through all issues related to ensuring the earliest possible return” of the released Russian citizens home.
The Russian Foreign Ministry also welcomed the relevant decision of the American side.
“We welcome this decision and express our gratitude to the US leadership ,” the Russian ministry said in a statement.
What preceded it?
- It was previously reported that on January 7, the United States seized the Russian-flagged tanker Bella-1/Marinera in the North Atlantic. The tanker was en route from Venezuela to Russia.
- The Russian Foreign Ministry confirmed that Russian citizens were on the tanker. It demanded that the US ensure “humane and dignified treatment” of its citizens on the ship, respect their rights and interests, and not impede the speedy return of Russians from the ship to their homeland.
