Correction. The destruction of mafia materiel is not useless. It helps to eliminate the mafia army, and it ultimately secures a Ukrainian victory.
Once it became known that there were huge minefields and lots of trenches to defend the stolen territories, it also became obvious that trying to go through them would be very, very difficult. Ukraine should have gone around them, via mafia land. I don’t know if the AFU had chosen to try forcing its way through those lines, or if it was forced to do so by its allies. Either way, it was a huge mistake. No doubt.
