Unpacking at Dumskaya: Russian pearl barley is even worse than we thought

This time, Nikolai Yakovenko, a military observer for Dumskaya, had to taste as many as three varieties of Russian canned food obtained by our defenders at the front – all of them with barley porridge, which, judging by the labels, should be mixed with meat.

Let’s say right away – there was no meat in these jars. Only in the “barley with pork” there were several pieces of old lard that smelled awful.

Eating this is not recommended to anyone! This “food” is disgusting in appearance, smell, taste. It’s embarrassing to even think about. We believe that even dogs will disdain such food.

You can feel the pain and despair in the video.

Recall that recently our taster tried the standard Russian dry rations. There, too, everything is “not so clear” …

  1. Have been many reports of dogs and cats not wanting to eat this stuff. Ingesting this stuff would not only be revolting, but harmful or fatal if swallowed. I would sooner eat an mre from desert storm.

  2. I effen love kasha. I love hrechaniks. Monka used to make this shepherds pie with buckwheat. We’d come in from the field and we would fight over the corner pieces.
What is that slop? I don’t recognize that. And Bill B, I wouldn’t feed that to my goats.

  3. Given that trash, it’s no wonder the orcs morale is failing. I wouldn’t go so far as to eat a Desert Storm MRE (Botulism has no attractions for me), but I’ve eaten C-rations and MREs in the 60s and 80s. Frankly, I fed my dog better food than what Russian troops are getting.

    Anyone for ham and mothers?

    • Lol Sir Oh. I had to go back way further than 10 years for that one. But I now know what ham and mothers are.

      • Many didn’t like Ham and Lima beans. I did. I also like Ham and Eggs, as did my father. I ate more than my share of C-rations as my father was Air Force food service. At the DFAC he ran they had to put a certain amount of Cs on the serving line, and almost no one took any. So, once a year, my father would bring home 5 cases for a bug out food, which we had to have incase Ivan decided to visit Oktoberfest. Our assigned bug out goal was Rota, Spain. A goodly drive from the Stuttgart area. We were supposed to have 3 days food for the trip, but 5 cases, 12 MCIs per case, gave us 5 days. My younger brothers would have had to choke some things down they didn’t like. I didn’t feel sorry for them at the prospect.

        • Wow Sir Oh. My dad was in the Air Force and spent some time in Germany he did electrical work and fire suppression, worked on radar dishes.
I did eat an mre from desert storm. But that was 15 years ago and about the only thing edible was the peanut butter and crackers.

          • I played Tanker for a couple years in the Tennessee Army national Guard in 85 and 86. The change over to MREs was completed in that time. I liked the Chicken and Turkey loaf. The freeze dried pork chop didn’t like to reconstitute very well. Things have changed enormously since then.

            • I was 19k in 635th KS Army National Guard from 2002-2004. Always liked finding skittles or M&Ms in my mre, they could be traded for practically anything.

              • 19E when I was playing tanker. That changed with the switch to the Abrams, which happened after I got out.
