A number of countries during today’s UN donors’ conference on the humanitarian situation in Afghanistan announced their intention to allocate more than $ 1 billion in financial assistance to humanitarian projects in that country.

According to DW , this was stated by UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres.

According to him, however, it is “impossible” to determine what share of these funds will come in response to the UN’s call for emergency support.

In particular, Germany and France have promised to allocate 100 million euros for humanitarian aid to Afghanistan, the United States – 54 million euros, Switzerland – 30 million euros. Another $ 20 million will be allocated from the UN Emergency Relief Fund.

In turn, the US representative to the UN Linda Thomas-Greenfield stressed that the radical Islamist movement “Taliban” must provide written guarantees for humanitarian aid.

“Words are not enough. We need to see action,” she said, adding that humanitarian organizations would not be able to do their job in Afghanistan if the Taliban “did not adhere to basic commitments and humanitarian rules.”

UN Secretary-General Guterres said at the start of the conference that the Afghan people, after seizing power in the Taliban, “need a lifeline” in order to survive the “most difficult hours”. Guterres previously estimated Afghanistan’s humanitarian aid needs at more than $ 600 million (500 million euros) by the end of this year.

Taliban seizure of power in Afghanistan

On August 15,   members of the Taliban terrorist movement seized Afghanistan . On the same day, President Ashraf Ghani fled Afghanistan.

On September 7, the Taliban announced the formation of a transitional government. Mohammad Hassan Akhund, chairman of the movement’s leadership, became its chairman.

  1. Fuck off! Give these head chopping throwbacks nothing. They can get their handouts from their scummy new friends.

  2. What a pathetic move. It seems that the 2 trillion dollars from the last 20 years hadn’t been enough. Let those ragheads feed their own people.
