In the temporarily occupied Crimea , among the hit Russian targets, which were reported on August 7 by the Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine, there is a very important one – the newest Yenisei radar. This was reported by the OSINT analysts community CyberBoroshno.

In the video of the GUR with the hit targets, the attention of analysts was drawn to an object marked in the recording as “Radar 96L6 S-400”. The community claims that another, more important target was hit.

“We analyzed the visual characteristics of the object and can say that this is the latest 98L6 Yenisei radar, which is the standard radar for the S-500 Prometheus air defense system. This station passed state tests in 2020-2021 and, according to open sources, entered service in 2021-2022,” the analysts say.

The Yenisei radar is based on a multi-element, jam-proof active phased antenna array (APAA), which allows tracking hypersonic targets moving at altitudes of up to 120 kilometers at speeds of up to 4,800 m/s (17,280 km/h). That is, as experts note, the system actually allows interception of low-orbit space targets. It works by emitting radio waves that hit potential targets and are reflected from them on the radar. The system’s data processing unit analyzes these returned signals to determine the location, speed, and direction of the target.

“An incredibly fat and expensive target that was hit by a Ukrainian UAV. According to our information, it is also used in Crimea together with the S-400, so we tried to find out the coordinates of the hit to understand which SAM the station was working with this time,” the analysts note.

Strikes on Crimea

Let us recall that yesterday it became known that in the temporarily occupied Crimea, combat drones of the special unit of the Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine “Ghosts” successfully inflicted fire damage on the enemy landing craft of Project 02510 “BK-16”.

It was also said that three Russian radar stations were burned – “Nebo-SVU”, “Podlet K-1” and 96L6E. The scouts said that enemy radars in domes, a landing craft, an air defense base on Ai-Petri became the scouts’ next prey, despite the fact that after serious losses of air defense facilities on the peninsula, the occupiers in Crimea began to hide their expensive military facilities in dome structures. And one more of these domes was hit by special forces on Ai-Petri, where the invaders located the air defense base of the 3rd radiotechnical regiment.
