The Kremlin annually receives about $15 billion in foreign exchange revenue from grain sales abroad.

Russian grain exports have now been almost completely halted due to Ukrainian strikes on ports on the Azov and Black Seas, The Moscow Times writes .

Last week, Ukrainian “sanctions” halted all three grain terminals at the port of Novorossiysk on the Black Sea. Through them, Moscow exported a total of about 25 million tons of grain annually.

At the end of July, the grain terminal in Taman also stopped operating. A few weeks earlier, the aggressor country had suspended shipping through the Kerch Strait. The Kremlin exported about 40% of its grain through the blocked ports of the Sea of Azov.

Now, almost all Russian grain exports through the Azov-Black Sea basin have stopped, local analysts say. Only the smallest of the deep-sea terminals, the port of Tuapse, remains operational. Last season, the Azov-Black Sea ports accounted for 88% of all seaborne grain shipments from the Russian Federation – 46.3 million tons, of which 29 million tons came from terminals on the Black Sea.

Russia is expected to harvest a good harvest of 140 million tons this year, but it will not be able to sell it. Domestic grain prices continue to fall – grade 4 wheat (medium quality) has already lost 20% of its value. Russian farmers are threatened with mass bankruptcies. Russians will feel the main consequences next season, as farmers may not have the funds to sow winter crops.
