Ukrainian Drones Attacked the Samara Region of russia

02.01.2026

On the night of January 2, Ukrainian drones attacked the Samara region of Russia. In particular, explosions were heard in the city of Novokuybyshevsk, which is just 15 km from Samara itself.

There has been no official information from local authorities about this yet. However, local residents have counted more than 10 explosions in the city’s industrial zone; people have also reported a fire.

In turn, the OSINT community Exilenova+ suggested that two oil refineries, Novokuybyshevsk and Kuybyshevsk, could have been hit by Ukrainian UAVs.

What is it about?

Novokuybyshevsk is a city of regional subordination in Samara Oblast, 15 km southwest of Samara. The city was built specifically to house the largest oil refinery in the USSR at that time.

Novokuibyshevsk Oil Refinery is part of the Rosneft PJSC group, the refinery’s capacity is 8.8 million tons of oil per year. The Kuibyshevsk Refinery is similar, although with a slightly lower capacity. The second plant employs only two thousand people.

What preceded

It should be noted that ” arrivals” from Ukraine in the area of the Novokuybyshevsk refinery were last recorded in November of this year. The second, Kuybyshevsk refinery, has also repeatedly come into the field of view of Ukrainian drones.

On the night of December 31, units of the Defense Forces of Ukraine struck a number of important objects of the Russian occupiers. The Tuapse oil refinery in the Krasnodar Territory of the Russian Federation, the Tamanneftegaz oil and gas terminal, as well as the Russian reserve oil depot were hit by fire. The attacks were part of actions to reduce the military-economic potential of the aggressor state.

As OBOZ.UA reported, the Armed Forces of Ukraine’s Unmanned Systems Forces also struck another strike on temporarily occupied Donetsk. As a result of the operation, equipment and a launch preparation site for the “Shahed/Geran” UAV at the Donetsk airport were hit.

  1. The second day of 2026 has brought the second attack on mafia land’s oil industry. Let’s keep it up until it’s all up in smoke.

    • Ben Hodges says that the way to defeat the devil country is to destroy their capacity to produce, refine and export oil.
I wonder how long at the current rate of progress it would take to achieve that, or at least 80-90% of it?
Storms and Flamingoes won’t be enough. Tomahawks would be a great equalizer, but I guess we’d need a massive Trump-putler bust up for that.

      • Maybe our Congress will grow a set of balls and do what’s the only right thing to do. In this regard, we need to see more successes for the Democrats. This will make the “GOP” maga minions more nervous about their current pathway.
