On the night of Wednesday, January 29, the Nizhny Novgorod region of the Russian Federation was attacked by drones. In the town of Kstovo near
Nizhny Novgorod, the Lukoil-Nizhegorodnefteorgsintez enterprise was hit.
A fire broke out at an oil depot after being hit by a UAV. Footage of the explosion was posted online by local residents.
Meanwhile, the governor of the Nizhny Novgorod region, Gleb Nikitin, claims that debris from a downed UAV fell onto the territory of an enterprise in the Kstovsky Industrial Zone.
“Firefighters are currently extinguishing the fire, according to preliminary data, there are no injuries,” he wrote.
The affected refinery is located approximately 800 km from the Ukrainian-Russian border. RosZMI writes that Lukoil-Nizhegorodnefteorgsintez is one of the largest oil refineries in Russia. In the spring of 2024, it was already attacked by drones.
Meanwhile, the Russian Defense Ministry announced the “destruction” of 104 Ukrainian drones. The largest number of UAVs was allegedly shot down by Russian air defense over the Kursk region overnight – 47 drones.
The Russian Defense Ministry also claims that 27 UAVs were “intercepted and destroyed over the territory of the Bryansk region, 11 over the territory of the Smolensk region, 7 over the territory of the Tver region, 4 over the territory of the Belgorod region, 3 over the territory of the Nizhny Novgorod region, 3 over the territory of the Kaluga region, one over the territory of the Rostov region, and one over the territory of the Leningrad region.”
As OBOZ.UA reported, in Russia, after two attacks by Ukrainian UAVs, the Ryazan Oil Refinery suspended its operations. As a result of drone strikes at the facility, an oil storage facility caught fire.
