Ukrainian Drones Attack Chemical Plant in Kirov Region

03/4/2026

On the morning of March 4, suicide drones attacked the Kirov region in the Russian Federation. According to preliminary information, the target of the attack was the Uralkhim chemical plant in the city of Kirovo-Chepetsk.

After the UAV attack, white smoke rose on the territory of the enterprise. This was reported by Russian Telegram channels.

Consequences of the attack

Eyewitnesses claim that drones hit the Uralkhim chemical plant in the city of Kirovo-Chepetsk, Kirov region. Regional authorities confirmed the arrival of the UAV, but did not name the damaged facility.

“This morning, a UAV attacked Kirovo-Chepetsk. Emergency services are working on the scene, there are no casualties,” said Governor Oleksandr Sokolov.

Due to the drone attack at around 7:00 a.m., restrictions on takeoff and landing of aircraft were introduced at Kirov Airport. Russians complained online that a plane from Moscow to Kirov was unable to fly due to the closure of the airport. The plane took off from Moscow in the morning, but turned around and landed back at Sheremetyevo Airport 27 minutes later.

What is known about the company?

Kirovo-Chepetsk Chemical Plant is part of the Uralkhim holding and one of the key enterprises of the Russian chemical industry. Today, it is a complex conglomerate of industries whose activities go far beyond agriculture.

In 2025, the plant produced about 2.6 million tons of products. It is the world’s largest producer of anhydrous calcium nitrate. The connection of the enterprise with the defense-industrial complex is due not so much to fertilizers as to the production of high-tech chemicals.

Historically, the plant was created to meet the needs of Soviet nuclear and missile projects. Today, the enterprise remains critically important: high-purity ammonium nitrate is a basic component for the production of industrial and special explosives.

The plant also produces strategic materials – fluoropolymers and fluororubbers. They are used to create seals, gaskets and coatings that can withstand aggressive environments (rocket fuel) and extreme temperatures. Without them, the production of modern aircraft engines, missile systems and submarines is impossible.

As a reminder, on the night of March 2, the Defense Forces launched effective strikes against the fleet of the aggressor state, the Russian Federation, in Novorossiysk. About 200 attack drones were used to attack the seaport in this city: five enemy ships are known to have been damaged.

As OBOZ.UA reported, on March 1, there was a lot of noise in the Tula region of the Russian Federation. At around 02:30, an attack was carried out on the positions of the S-400 anti-aircraft missile system in the village of Osykova Gora.
