‘Ukraine’s draft crucial for foreign aid’s impact’ – top Polish general says

“The announced British aid, if realised, will certainly improve the resilience and capabilities of the Ukrainian armed forces. But there are also some important issues that the Ukrainians have to sort out themselves, for the support to give a proper result” – the Polish Armed Forces Chief of the General Staff, General Wiesław Kukuła, said during a Saturday morning Polish Radio interview.

Earlier this week, during his visit to Poland the British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak announced that an additional military aid package for Ukraine worth 500 million pounds will be provided by his country. General Wiesław Kukuła emphasised that while this will be a substantial help – army numbers are of equal importance.

Let’s remember that while Europe and the United States support Ukraine with equipment, it is also very important that Ukraine works out its mobilisation issues, so that it not only has things to fight with, but also soldiers to operate them. Only the combination of these two factors will have a strategic impact on the front.

– General Kukuła said, speaking for Polish Radio. The new law on mobilisation in Ukraine will come into force in May – with the draft age reduced from 27 to 25 years. As BBC recently reported – nearly 20,000 men have fled Ukraine since the beginning of the war to avoid military service.

Another important information announced during Rishi Sunak’s visit to Poland is the fact that London wants to get involved in patrolling the Polish sky. “Next year, Great Britain will deploy its Eurofighter Typhoon fighters in Poland” – the country’s prime minister said. He added that several thousand British soldiers will also be stationed in Poland soon, as per the agreements with the Polish government and military command.

Russia first illegally invaded Ukraine in 2014 – and has occupied a significant part of the country ever since. On February 24, 2022, Moscow took things further mounting an unlawful and unprovoked full-scale invasion of Ukraine – which is the largest military campaign in Europe since World War II.

Numerous reports from a variety of sources state that since the full-scale invasion started, Russians have committed countless war crimes in Ukraine – breaking the Geneva convention on a daily basis and killing tens of thousands of civilians.

The list of Kremlin’s transgressions reported includes regular attacks on non-military targets, murdering and torturing large numbers of war prisoners and civilians, kidnapping thousands of Ukrainian children into Russia – and using forbidden weapons.

Saturday is day 794 of Russia’s full-scale war of aggression against Ukraine.

  1. Since the invasion expanded 2+ years ago, Poland is believed to have contributed $9 billion to Ukraine’s war effort, which is not to be sniffed at. However, here is why Poland must do a lot more :

It is a frontline state. Invaded and occupied by Russia from 1939-1990.
Russia committed terrible atrocities, including the Katyn massacres. These were murders of Polish elite : senior politicians, senior army officers, senior intelligence officers, democratic journalists, philosophers, scientists, doctors etc.
Russia repeated these atrocities in Smolensk in 2010:
Poland’s top officials were again murdered.
President Lech Kaczynsky, his wife, the chief of the Polish General Staff, senior military officers, government officials, the president of the National Bank of Poland, 18 parliamentarians, senior clergymen and other VIP’s.
Inspectors from the British MOD found traces of explosives in the wreckage of the plane.
“Polish farmers”; AKA putinaZi agents, have cost jobs, threatened Ukrainian truckers’ livelihood and caused many millions of dollars damage to the already horribly stressed Ukrainian economy.
There has been no apology from the supposedly pro-Ukraine PM Tusk.
This terrible war is very much Poland’s fight too. All Russians hate the Poles. That’s just a fact and the kremkrapper propagandists are expressing that hatred even more.
Poland should send at least three mechanized brigades to help Ukraine’s defence.

    • Lech Kaczynsky visited Georgia in 2008. A park containing his statue in Batumi was built to commemorate him.
      A plaque was erected.

      “Agenda.ge, 17 Mar 2022 – 18:43, Tbilisi,Georgia.”

“Georgian and Polish Prime Ministers opened a monument to former Polish President Lech Kaczynski, who died in 2010, in Georgia’s Black Sea city of Batumi on Thursday.
In a meeting in the city between the two leaders, Garibashvili noted Georgians would “never forget” the “heroic actions” of Kaczynski during the 2008 war between Russia and Georgia.
The Georgian PM told the public the unveiling of the monument was “to immortalise the name of a great friend of the Georgian people, the national hero of Georgia, President Lech Kaczynski”.
The head of the Georgian Government noted Kaczynski’s “active support” for Georgia’s European and Euro-Atlantic aspirations in his lifetime.
He vocally called on Western leaders to make bolder decisions regarding our country’s European integration. [During the war] In August 2008, President Kaczynski arrived in Tbilisi to stand up for our sovereignty, our country and our people,” the PM said.
Today, during the worst events on the European continent, we all remember his warning to European leaders that if they did not resist the aggression against Georgia, in the future Ukraine and other countries would be targeted,” Garibashvili also added.
Polish Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki spoke about the values of Kaczynski at the unveiling of the monument, and thanked his counterpart for honouring the memory of the late Polish politician.”

The visit of Kaczynski in the middle of putler’s invasion of 2008 is further circumstantial evidence of putinaZi guilt. Of course the rat Nazi was furious at the time and his grudges are endless.

  2. Right, it’s essential for Ukraine to increase its mobilization efforts. And these depend not only on the new law getting into effect, but also on the implementation. Can recruitment number goals be reached? That takes an organization in place that’s ready to manage the task. In this context, it would be good to know if the government finally appointed new officers for the allegedly corrupt ones that had been fired last summer. Reinforcements for the forces had dwindled down after that botched “improvement”. If this problem hasn’t been solved, the mobilization will fail, with disastrous consequences at the frontline. We can only hope for the best. 🤞😕

    • I would like to see willing countries have boots on the ground if for nothing else than training the trainers. Preferably a willing coalition of defenders of unoccupied oblasts to enable Ukrainian troops and equipment surge to the NE, E, SE, and S.

      • That sure would help, Sir Bill. As I wrote recently, how about Nato nations establishing their own volunteer brigades, equipped with the best their military has to offer? Legally, these wouldn’t be national units, but independent soldiers, fighting under Ukrainian command and jurisdiction. So, no direct Nato involvement in war. But still, a helpful strengthening of the front. It’s high time for more creative thinking about support for Ukraine! 😎

        • That would be a good idea, Mr. Gray. Regarding your last sentence, though, I have a difficult time making a connection between creative thinking and Biden or Scholz.
