We continue working hard and urging the US Congress to approve the aid for Ukraine. We hear a lot of various arguments in favor of those who want Ukraine to be defeated and occupied. Corruption in Ukraine is one of them.

What do we know about systemic corruption in Ukraine:
🌍 It is globally exposed.
📢 Ukrainian #civilsociety is vocal and proactive, effectively drawing attention to corruption from average Ukrainians to decision-makers in allied countries.
🕵‍♂️ #Investigativejournalism is present and has proven effective as well.
👩‍💻 The general #public in Ukraine is actively engaged, contrasting with the passive observer mentality seen in countries like russia.

What many of us don’t want to know or ignore:
➡ The Ukrainian government keeps drafting and implementing reforms to address this deep-rooted issue.
➡ There is a political will to cure Ukraine.
➡ Change in Ukraine cannot occur overnight because of the enduring legacy of Soviet-era bureaucracy and corruption, as well as other systemic issues like blat and favoritism that persist in #Eurasia.
➡ Ukrainians aspire to live in a democratic nation with justice, prosperity, and values rooted in honesty and integrity.
➡ Ukraine longs for freedom — freedom from Soviet legacies, russian influence, and russian occupation.

With that said, I am excited to see the initiative taken by the #USG to establish #reporting mechanisms for potential misuse of aid and ensure public access to information. Transparency is the key.

Needless to say, we are immensely #grateful for the support our #allies provide us on every front of the wars we fight — be it on the battlefield, in information dissemination, or in combating corruption.

………..

An earlier post from Mariya. And it’s a shocking one. Sorry:

The Independent International Commission of Inquiry on Ukraine, established by The United Nations Human Rights Council (UNHRC) two years ago, has released a new report with the most recent evidence of ‘widespread and systematic’ torture, rape, and mental abuse of Ukrainian POWs.

russiansoldiers are engaged in the most horrific tactics to inflict physical harm and psychological trauma upon Ukrainian captives, with victims comprising both civilians and military personnel. Testimonies of the survivors are chilling but must be heard.

Ukrainians know too well what living under the russian flag means. Support Ukraine today. Demand justice. Call your representative. Ask for military and humanitarian aid. Do not be silent.

I lost hope and will to live, in Russian jail, says Ukraine POW:

15 March 2024Human Rights

Fresh evidence of “horrific…widespread and systematic” abuse and likely war crimes committed by Russian forces against civilians and military detainees in Ukraine emerged on Friday, in a new report by UN-appointed independent rights investigators.
