Peace talks will not be possible if Russia puts Ukrainian soldier on trial, Volodymyr Zelensky has warned.

Russia might take the provocative step of putting Ukrainian fighters captured during the siege of Mariupol on a public trial to coincide with the 31st independence anniversary on Wednesday.
Ukraine’s Independence Day, Aug 24, will also mark six months since Russia invaded the former Soviet republic, in a devastating war that has cost thousands of lives.
Zelensky said on Sunday: “If this despicable court takes place, if our people are brought into these settings in violation of all agreements, all international rules, there will be abuse.
“This will be the line beyond which no negotiations are possible.”

A trial requires the assumption of moral superiority by those conducting it. That assumption in the case of Russia is somewhere far south of merely risible. Russia is now a pariah state. A pariah state whose constant lies would be comedic were they not excusing mass murder in pursuit of Ukrainian resources.
It really is time to isolate the wretched place. Totally. No trade, no travel connections, no recognition of Russian passports and no witless ‘negotiations’ that give credibility to a murdering and thieving thug.

Should be no negotiations anyway. You negotiate with terrorists at your own peril, don’t fall for the same mistakes again.

If this was true why do all Ukrainians support them? Sometimes I wonder if these Prigozhinites even read what they post or take a breath and check to see if it makes sense.
I am pleased that Zelensky is putting so much importance to this most serious affair These guys are regular soldiers and as such they deserve to be treated as regular POWs, according to international laws. They do not deserve to be put on trial. Period. I know that mafia land kicks laws and rules and regulations and agreements regularly. The fact that Ukraine can demand this from a position of strength gives Zelensky’s warning a lot of weight. We’ll see…
