U.S. Special Representative for Ukraine negotiations Kurt Volker says the United States expects Ukraine to form a new government and implement its declared intentions before Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky’s visit to Washington.

The official told Priamyi TV Channel on August 26 that the U.S. government supports the initiatives, which Zelensky announced during the election campaign and which he voices today while the government is being formed.

That is promises to continue reforms and fight corruption, intentions to continue de-oligarchization, and the announced path to rapprochement with the EU and NATO. Moreover, the U.S. government greatly appreciates the statement that Ukraine will fulfill its obligations to achieve peace.

According to Volker, Zelensky has not yet had the opportunity to implement his initiatives, as the new parliament has not yet begun to work. The diplomat says this will happen in the coming weeks, when the new government will be formed with its prime minister and foreign minister. He says the U.S. wishes to work closely with the new team on the implementation of all announced intentions and initiatives.

Volker hopes that during President Zelensky’s visit to the White House, the sides could talk about the achievements of the Ukrainian government and those in bilateral cooperation. According to the official, the date of the visit has not yet been determined.
