Ukraine to suspend sugar exports to EU

Ukraine will ban sugar exports to European Union countries until the end of 2024 due to the quota being nearly filled, states the acting Minister of Agrarian Policy and Food of Ukraine, Taras Vysotskyi.

According to him, sugar export volumes to Europe have reached the limit established under the new trade preference rules. Ukraine is one of the largest sugar exporters to Europe.

“Other markets will be without limits, but the EU market will be opened only from January 1 and then it will become clear what export volumes there will be,” Vysotskyi clarified.

According to Reuters, Ukrainian sugar exports to the EU have reached 262,600 tons, the volume set by the EU as Ukraine’s quota for 2024.

In 2023, Ukrainian producers exported about 493,000 tons of sugar to the EU.

Continuation of the trade visa-free regime

A few weeks ago, the European Union officially extended the trade visa-free regime with Ukraine, but the decision includes several nuances.

Specifically, the EU decided to reintroduce tariffs on imports of Ukrainian poultry, eggs, and sugar if they exceed the average volumes of 2022 and 2023.

  1. I said for years that Ukraine is too big for the EU. It should focus on Nato membership and leave it with the association as is. Fuck the EU. 😎

    • I upvoted your comment because I share your dislike of the EU. But for poor countries it works very well.
Ireland was an impoverished backwater, but it took advantage of incredibly generous EU subsidies and became the biggest GDP/capita in the EU.
Poland in 2004 had the same GDP as Ukraine. It now has many times that because it was a net beneficiary and still is.
Ukraine will have a symbiotic relationship with the EU.

      • I upvoted you because we are partners here, but the EU does not even want Ukraine, for the beneficial reasons you pointed out and because of her economic might. Then add the roubles up the EU’s ass.

  2. Hey EU go ahead and kick someone who is down but still protecting your sorry asses.

  3. I still don’t understand why Ukraine should join such a sniveling, ungrateful, self serving, cowardly, despicable, offensive, inconsiderate, thoughtless, cheeky (for our UK participants), snooty, insensitive , tactless, churlish, nasty, mean, unkind, and MOFOs that are a participants in this organization.

Please feel free to add your own adverbs or adjectives.

  4. The EU will reach their goal soon to discourage the Ukrainian people to join this silly organization.
