Ambassador of Denmark to Ukraine Ole Egberg Mikkelsen says that Denmark will send Ukraine the promised F-16 fighter jets in the summer of 2024
He said this in an interview with We Ukraine.
Mikkelsen assured that there was no need for concern, stating that aircraft would indeed be made available for Ukraine. He mentioned that their entire F-16 fleet was presently undergoing decommissioning as they shifted towards a new generation of F-35 aircraft.
According to him, some of the fighter jets will also be delivered to Argentina.
When asked by a journalist when Ukraine would receive the F-16s, the ambassador quoted Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen as saying that Denmark would provide the fighter jets to Ukraine this summer.
“There is nothing to worry about. The F-16s will be delivered as promised,” the ambassador added.
- On April 15, Norway’s Foreign Minister said his country, along with its Danish and Dutch partners, plans to provide Ukraine with F-16 multi-role fighter jets with the latest weapons.

Time the F-35s finally arrive. No wonder we are broke. The chicoms can produce 10 times the planes we do in the same amount of time, and other than with e.g. Boeing, without a few screws loose. We really need to get back to the top. Make our economy great again, (without maggotZ).
Well, those Chinese planes don’t have the same combat strength, Mike. But you’re right, numbers count, too, and Western nations need to ramp up their military-industrial production (and at the same time reduce the costs). There need to be long term contracts, to fund higher output capacities that can be fastly increased in case of war. The times when defence planning essentially was a bet on a mostly peaceful future, with only some peacekeeping missions ahead, are over. Responsible heads of state need to prepare their countries for defence against major attacks! 🤨
It’s great that Denmark, a small country that already supported Ukraine to a large degree (more impressively than effing France, Italy and Spain) stands by its Congress. But without wanting to criticize Frederiksen, who has to take care of her state’s finances, of course, it annoys me that 18 or so F-16s will be sold to far away Argentina (which has neglected its airforce for decades). Those planes will be needed for Ukraine in the next years! I can’t understand why the EU’s defence fund isn’t used for keeping those jets in Europe. Alternatively, Nato should finally establish a coordination center for supporting Ukraine, with adequate funds to do longterm contracts. There really needs to be more proactive planning, the West can’t afford shortsighted improvisations on national levels, which ignore future needs and the bigger picture, any longer! 😠
Oops! Dunno why I wrote “Congress” above, I meant “promise”. I guess the recent drama in the US House and the upcoming vote in Senate is in the back of my mind. 😳
The reason why Denmark is selling some F-16s to Argentina might have to do with the fact that Europe is still living a fantasy in which the war in Ukraine is raging not in Europe but in a far-away place on the other side of the globe. In other words, they are not fully aware of the dangers they are actually in. Should Ukraine fall, there is practically no one else there to stop mafia land. Every bit of military gear possible should go straight and directly to Ukraine, not to South America or wherever.
Well, that’s probably true for many Southern European countries, Mr. Ofp, but probably not for Denmark. Please note the clear north/south divide in Europe regarding support for Ukraine. Frederiksen’s country is solidly in the northern camp and she gets on very well with Zelenskyy (his wife may even have been a bit jealous, seeing photos of them). So, no, I don’t think the danish prime minister is unaware of the RuSSian threat, but her small country simply can’t afford to give away all its F-16s for free while at the same time buying the very expensive F-35s. That’s really a case where other EU/Nato countries should have made a reasonable purchase bid to keep these jets in Europe. 🙁
I’m sure the F-16s that will be sent to Ukraine are upgraded while those intended for Argentina are not.
I see your point, Mr. Gray, but what price is there to keep a huge crime syndicate away from your borders?
